Welcome to NorCal Aussie Rescue, a California State nonprofit public benefit corporation. Our Federal Tax ID number: # 26-0076953. We rescue, evaluate and then place wonderful Australian Shepherds in just the right new home. This takes time! We do not adopt out of state.

Aussies can be moderately active to extremely active, needy or independent, child-friendly or child-intolerant. Aussies are not always good with children. Most of our Aussies are strays and we cannot be assured they are good with children. Read more about Aussies: Is An Aussie the Right Dog For You.

Please make sure you view our Shelter Listings as well as the Related Links because there are many nice dogs in shelters that have very limited time. Choosing the best possible home for each individual dog is a very time consuming task - please be patient! If you are interested in adopting one of our Aussies, please fill out an Adoption Application. If you've submitted an application, please be patient...we receive 20-30 applications per day. Thank you!

of NorCal Aussie Rescue! We average an adoption every other day. Your support makes this possible. Thank You!

Please Sponsor an Aussie!
Each foster dog gets at least one trip to the vet for vaccinations, worming, tests, altering, and has any health concern addressed. In addition to vet bills which are 1/3 of our annual budget, we have on-going expenses for Solid Gold food (we get wholesale), treats, beds, collars and ID tags, as well as Sanctuary expenses like satellite, electricity, taxes, and gasoline for the van. Not including vet bills, our typical expenses are $450-$500 per month. Please consider an ongoing monthly donation to help us continue. Thank you Ken & Phyllis, Tootie, Paula, Meri and Barbara for your monthly gifts! Donating is simple and quick with PayPal!

Aussie Adventures
We think traveling with our Aussies is a lot of fun. Please email us a photo of you and/or your Aussie on a travel adventure, and we'll post it. Tell us where you went and what activities you enjoyed together!

We will not place our Aussies in homes with children under 12 years of age unless it's an Aussie that we know has lived with small children.

LOST AUSSIES: We currently have 6 missing Aussies reported. See our lost aussies page.

Sweet Seniors
We feel it's really important to make room at the Sanctuary for seniors who end up in shelters. Many have passed through our doors and found wonderful, loving homes. Some of them spend the rest of their lives with us.

We offer a place for you to pay tribute to your beloved Aussie and invite you to email us a photo and tell us about your special Aussie so we might add them to our memorial page.

Rather than feeling sad, we hope that you feel encouraged that we gave them a wonderful life. They certainly enriched ours.

See our new memorial page.

Training plays a huge part in the relationship you have with your dog or dogs. We recommend and often require at least one obedience class with your dog. If we can't set you up with a trainer, go to www.apdt.com and click on "How to Choose a Trainer" to learn about different training approaches. Then click on "Dog Trainer Search" to find one near your home. We think you should observe a class before signing up.

Kim's Neice on Dog Whisperer 1/9/09 Ali and Stan

Kim’s neice Ali, and her little dog Stan (from the NYC shelter) will be featured on “The Dog Whisperer” on January 9 on National Geographic!
The producer says it usually airs a few times during the day, but it’s usually between 8pm or 9pm depending on local listings.

A Message from Kim 12/31/08
This is the perfect day to make a year-end, tax deductible gift! We're still in the red, and would love to start 2009 in the pink!

We've adopted 118 dogs to families this year and helped save the lives of many shelter dogs by posting them on our site and getting them adopted straight from the shelter.

Trekker, formerly Bubba from the El Dorado County puppy mill is having a trophy room built as he's winning so many ribbons and trophies in Obedience and Rally! He'll soon have his own Feature Page on our site, too.

I am entertained every day at the antics of these kids! Today, Elsa lept over 2 dogs' backs to take a straight run at me at the gate. The two dogs never stopped their game of tug of war...it didn't phase them one bit.

They've also found yummy red berries on a bush. Gracie started eating them, and now 6 have learned from watching her and pluck the berries off the bush.

Red (adopted October) is down to 61 pounds, and I get photos almost daily of him playing with a new toy, or sleeping in his new, red sleeping bag.

Avi and Lucy (adopted July) have both passed their CGC (Canine Good Citizen) certification, and Lucy is doing agility while Avi will become a therapy dog. Avi was featured in Sonoma Pets (read Avi's story).

Wesley and Sunny (adopted May, 07) in Seaside are all dressed up for their holiday card and I'm lucky enough to go hiking with them often when they come to Donner Lake.

Your kindness and generosity allows us to continue finding loving homes for these amazing Aussies, whether they are seniors, young and wild, or simply timid… it's because of you that they get a chance at a fabulous life. Thank You!

If you haven't visited us at the Sanctuary, I invite you to make a trip in 2009! I look forward to the joys and surprises that lie ahead! HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Still News

Thanks to your support, we've grown to a successful organization with almost 800 supporters, 50 volunteers, and a Sanctuary in Grass Valley. I am and will forever be, grateful for the kindness and generosity of so many.

We've accomplished a lot in the past 2 years in Grass Valley...but we spent a bit more than we brought in. We're $21,000 in the hole. Huge medical expenses, sky high fuel prices and finishing the kennel and play yard all contributed to our financial situation. We ask you to please help us get out of debt by giving a gift of any size. Donate securely with PayPal. Thank you.

Check out a holiday Dinner at Sue's. Send us what you are doing with your aussies!

People losing their homes are abandoning their pets in astounding numbers. Read this article about abandoned animals in Chicago.

If you have thought about fostering an Aussie, please help now! Call me at 530-268-1600 or fill out a Foster Home application by clicking on Volunteer from our home page.

Go to Shelter Aussies to see the beauties who've lost their homes. Also look at Owner Listed Aussies...they are in trouble too. If you'd prefer a "go anywhere, little dog", please look at Pocket Dogs
