Welcome to NorCal Aussie Rescue, a California
State nonprofit public benefit corporation. Our Federal
Tax ID number: # 26-0076953. We rescue, evaluate and then
place wonderful Australian Shepherds in just the right
new home. This takes time! We do not adopt out of state.
Aussies can be moderately active to extremely active,
needy or independent, child-friendly or child-intolerant.
Most of our
Aussies are strays and we cannot be assured they are
good with children. Read
more about Aussies: Is An
Aussie the Right Dog For You.
Please make sure you view our Shelter
Listings as well as the Related
Links because there are many nice dogs in shelters
that have very limited time. Choosing the best possible
home for each individual dog is a very time consuming
task - please be patient! If you are interested in adopting
one of our Aussies, please fill out an Adoption Application. If you've submitted an application,
please be patient...we receive 20-30 applications per
day. Thank you!
Franky, Lost in Muir Beach

Lost Aussie in the Muir Beach area - across the bridge from San Francisco, not too far from Sausalito, off Hwy 1
I'm hoping you might help find my dog Franky. He was taken from Muir Beach. He's three legged, light red & white Aussie; one silver blue eye an one brown eye. He's 11 years old. I've had him since he was a puppy. We recently lost his sister so he's been a bit forlorn an not eating well and gotten kinda skinny. Please contact me if you have any information.

Please Sponsor an Aussie!
Each foster dog gets at least one trip to the vet for vaccinations, worming, tests, altering, to have any health concern addressed. In addition to vet bills which are 1/3 of our annual budget, we have on-going expenses for Solid Gold food (we get wholesale), treats, beds, collars and ID tags, as well as Sanctuary expenses like satellite, electricity, taxes, and gasoline for the van. Not including vet bills, our typical expenses are $900-1,500 per month. Please consider an ongoing monthly donation. Thank you Ken & Phyllis, Tootie, Michael & Alan, Meri, Carol, Christine, Shelly, Michelle and Barbara for your monthly gifts! Donating is simple and quick with PayPal! |

Tell us where you went and what activities you enjoyed together!

will not place our Aussies in homes

we know has lived with small children. |

Sweet Seniors
We feel it's really important to make room at the Sanctuary for seniors who end up in shelters. Many have passed through our doors and found wonderful, loving homes. Some of them spend the rest of their lives with us.
We offer a place for you to pay tribute to your beloved Aussie and invite you to email us a photo and tell us about your special Aussie so we might add them to our memorial page.
Rather than feeling sad, we hope that you feel encouraged that we gave them a wonderful life. They certainly enriched ours.
See our new memorial page.
We built a Memorial Garden at the Sanctuary
For a $1,000 donation, we will create a custom, 6" X 8" bronze plaque with your Aussie's photo & your sentiments.

Training plays a huge part in the relationship you have with your dog or dogs. We recommend and often require at least one obedience class with your dog. If we can't set you up with a trainer, go to www.apdt.com and click on "How to Choose a Trainer" to learn about different training approaches. Then click on "Dog Trainer Search" to find one near your home. We think you should observe a class before signing up. |

A Message from Kim 8/23/10
Big day today! Dora and Portia start heartworm treatment. I am very grateful to Terri and Bill for fostering Dora through her treatment and to Sue and Dave for fostering Portia through her treatment.
We're sprucing up for Dinner Under the Stars....a little bit each day as time allows, with the big clean up party and picnic Labor Day weekend. Gardening, weed eating, rock organizing (WHAT?) and dog grooming are just some of the things we do with our volunteer-loving Aussies underfoot. Call me iif you can help! 530-268-1600.
The number of abandoned Aussies and now Mini Aussies is staggering. WE OFFICIALLY RESCUE TWO BREEDS AND NEED MORE FOSTER HOMES. Many breeders are breeding standard, mini and TOY Aussies. Families are buying these tiny ones thinking "lap dogs" which they are NOT! It's astonishing how many are showing up in shelters.
ASCA and AKC do not recognize mini or toy Aussies so therefore the national Aussie Rescue group does not rescue them. Minis are formally called "North American Shepherds and can be registered with RARE BREED or NATIONAL STOCK DOG REGISTRY. There is no mini Aussie Rescue in California. If anyone would like to foster a mini Aussie or any sized Aussie, please contact me.
Our really timid mini Aussies that we flew from Spokane (confiscated from a puppy mill) are doing better. Pendleton is a red tri boy and now comes to me when called and takes treats from my hand. Melina and Blue however, need a lot of one on one time. Thank you Brian and Gail for fostering little Blue and Melina who are making GREAT progress in their home. If you'd like to help pay for their airfare from Spokane to Sacramento ($720) please donate with PayPal.
