Plato NCAR#406

Plato
Plato is a handsome black tri who turned 2 on October 12, 2007. He’s 46 lbs. and has a gorgeous, long, thick coat. He’s the smallest of his owner’s litter and lives with his mom, dad and 2 siblings. He also lives with a cat, but will chase it if it runs. Plato has no formal training, would not readily come to me for pets, but is devoted to his family, including a 12 year old girl. He doesn’t know how to play fetch or play any games really, he’s just been a house dog who enjoys petting. Plato would do best if he either lived as an only dog or with a well mannered, friendly female who would show him the ropes. He should be enrolled in beginning obedience in his new home. Fostered in Sacramento. Contact: Kim at kim@norcalaussierescue.com

***ADOPTED 5/30***
Mr. Magoo
Mr. Magoo is a neutered male, approximately 6 year old Chihuahua. At about 4 lbs, he is truly a "go anywhere" dog and absolutely adorable. Magoo gets along great with the small dogs in his foster home but likes to keep his distance from the bigger ones. Overall though he gets around great and can assert himself when necessary. Magoo enjoys going for daily walks and also enjoys trips to the dog park, provided there is a small dog only area.

He bonds very quickly and very strongly. Whenever his foster mom leaves the house he will wait right by the door until she gets back. Magoo is housebroken, kennels easily and is very good natured around people. He loves to be held, and will perch himself on your arm if given the chance. Magoo would do best in a home without small children or large dogs and would prefer an easy-going household with another small dog as a companion. Not sure how he is around cats yet. He is neutered, up to date on shots, and microchipped. Fostered in Davis.

Lucy #464
Avi & Lucy have gone home to Rhonert Park with Laurie and her daughter, Kayla and their fabulous and well trained Aussie boy, Apollo. Avi and Lucy will be enrolled in obedience and then agility classes right away. Are these kids lucky or what???
Lucy is a 3 year old, 33 pound mini blue merle. She was raised by a family with very young children where she didn’t get much structure or clear communication. They sent her away twice to “boot camp”, but each time she returned, the family felt they couldn’t handle her, so they asked us to rehome her. We do not recommend sending a dog to boot camp. (I think dog owners should go to camp to learn dog behavior, but that’s another conversation entirely.)

Lucy is reactive to some strangers and has a powerful bark. She can take an aggressive stance with some visitors to the Sanctuary, but it’s rare. Mostly she’s fun and sweet and loving and plays well with all the dogs, female or male. I love this little girl and she’ll do well with an active, experienced person and likely excel in obedience and agility. Fostered in Grass Valley . Contact: Kim at kim@norcalaussierescue.com

Avalanche NCAR #415
Avi in the snow!
Avalanche (AVI as we call him) is 8 months old now! He is the last of Molly's pups and was born August 15, 2007. He is bilaterally deaf and has ok vision in one eye. He has had all his booster shots, Rabies and has had a BAER hearing test. He's neutered and a healthy, happy boy!
Avalanche has learned to walk on a leash, has learned several hand commands and is a terrific Aussie puppy. He loves to play with April, Tiffany and just about anyone!.He likes car rides, too! He really likes to play rough and run with the big Aussies...his favorite playmate is Bailey, and he also plays hard with Cassie. And Avi is as cuddly as it gets...just loves to be held and settles in easily. He loves every visitor to the Sanctuary and the feeling is always mutual! He's soft and wakes up sweetly....doesn't startle. He's just a love. Fostered in Grass Valley.

Holly
Holly was abused the first years of her life…she was chained up and harshly treated. She was rescued by kind people and has lived a great life with them. She’s about 65 pounds, 8 or 9 years old and just gorgeous. We think she’s an Aussie/Collie mix. She knows sit, stay, come, lay down, knows not to jump up on people, sits and won't eat until given command, leash trained-LOVES walks, potty trained, EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT-EXTREMELY LOVABLE dog! Great w/kids, w/jog beside you, does not stray from yard even though she lives in open territory. She has killed chickens and rodents.

Holly is a rare find. Her owners have lost their home and need to place Holly soon. To meet her, please submit an application by clicking on ADOPT on our home page. Holly is near Auburn. Contact: Kim at kim@norcalaussierescue.com

***ADOPTED 5/18***
Smiley
Smiley is a purebred Australian Shepherd and is just a Cutie. Any of you out there looking for a beautiful, fun, smart, very affectionate dog - here he is. He is the most smiley dog we have ever seen; he smiles at you every time he looks at you or you look at him. Smiley is about 1 year old and weighs 52 lbs. This lucky boy is getting groomed tomorrow and is neutered. He is just beautiful.......with one full blue eye and one full brown. He could use some training classes, so an obedience class would be a great way to bond and have fun at the same time.

Smiley is doing GREAT in foster care...wonderful with all the other dogs of the household, large and small. He met the little grandchildren and was great with them. They have penned chickens and Smiley has not made any overtures towards them. I really think this guy was just tossed outside and left to his own devices. He needs some leash work for sure and he hasn't figured out yet that going in the car is FUN...... not that he's afraid....just not sure what to make of it. I will tell you.....he is a TOTAL LOVE BUG. So very kissy and licky and SUCH a smiler. When he came to my house for pictures...he greeted me with a big smile and lots of Aussie wiggles. True to his breed....he will make someone a superb family dog. He has been in the house and no accidents. Smiley is being fostered in Murphys, Caliveras County.

Cassie NCAR#420

Lynn, Cassie, Bruce and Kirby!
Cassie lives with Lynn and Bruce and their Aussie, Kirby. They are diligently working with a trainer to help her through her leash fears. Cassie gives them kisses every morning…they love it!

Cassie is a small Aussie/Cattle Dog or Border Collie mix. She gave birth to pups and all pups have found homes.

She’s only 35 pounds and is loving and sweet. She knows how to sit and is very affectionate. She's learning what a leash is and will do great with patient, loving people who will gently show her the world. She greets guests sweetly and loves people. She gives strangers kisses and is very comfortable in the house or outside.

She's focused on cats and livestock and should not live with them! She's housebroken, loves to curl up on the couch with me or any visitor, sits for treats and is playful with other dogs and patient with puppies. Very easy going girl. Fostered in Grass Valley.

Cody
Cody was surrendered to the Alameda Animal Shelter due to family illness. He's a 4 year old blue merle, neutered, raised with cats and is afraid of children.
He pulls a little on the leash when excited and plays with cats. He's housebroken and has good house manners. He goes to the dog park every morning and has good doggie friends.
He will lick his front paw until it is raw...it's caused by anxiety and called a lick granuloma. He's been prescribed an ointment and antibiotics and Providence West Vet Hospital in Alameda has his records. I can talk to anyone about this medical issue...it's manageable!

AMY NCAR #454

Amy lives with Caroline in Petaluma . Caroline works from her quiet home and will take Amy with her on outings, walks and trips to the beach. The perfect home for Amy!
Amy is a sweet, affectionate, beautiful blue merle with a blue patch on one of her brown eyes. She's wants to be with her person and aims to please, giving kisses whenever she can. Amy is 6 years old and came to us from a loving family whose circumstances changed. A teenaged grandson with special needs moved into the home and his outbursts made Amy act out. She does not do well with yelling or commotion, so we are finding her a quiet home without small children.

She has adjusted well to her foster home with two other easy going Aussies. She's overweight, but is working on her figure by going to the dog park and taking short hikes with her foster family. She enjoys the exercise, playing with her toys and just hanging out. She has learned how to use the doggie door, but still expects to be taken out to do her business. We suspect she was trained this way, because she gets to her business quickly and let's you know when she's ready to go back in. She's fine with being brushed which is good, since her beautiful full coat will need care. Fostered in Sacramento. Contact: Kim at kim@norcalaussierescue.com

JAX, NCA# 456

Jax looks happy!
Jax was bred from champion lines…he’s absolutely perfectly conformed at 65 lbs. and will be 10 years old in May. Unfortunately, his owners continually shaved him…..grrrrrrr...his coat is ruined.

He’s great with all people and children…would prefer to be an only dog, but certainly can live with another! He’s pushy about his food and about getting his way, so a low key partner would be best and he'd LOVE being the only dog! He’s obedient yet a little hard headed. He also will eat anything left on the counter. Very cute when he cocks his head as I ask, "Did you enjoy my sandwich?"

His owners fell ill and could no longer take care of him so he’s with us at the Sanctuary. This is an easy, wonderful Aussie who will make people turn their heads when you walk by. Fostered in Grass Valley. Contact: Kim at kim@norcalaussierescue.com

Harley NCAR#

Harley and family
Harley is a 5 year old black tri and Plato’s mom. She’s calm and fine around dogs and all people. She and Plato lived with their breeder, but now she’s moving in with her children who already have dogs, and can’t take Harley along. Harley is a nice companion dog who could stand to lose 5-8 pounds. Fostered in Sacramento. Contact: Kim at Contact: Kim at kim@norcalaussierescue.com

Badger
Meet Badger folks! This little guy is 110% Jack Russell. He’s 6 years old and he is really in need of a loving home. He and his playmate, Dove, were turned into the shelter by their owner. Now Badger sits confused, waiting for someone to rescue him. Badger doesn’t have just a pretty face, he’s a sweetheart. He’s a busy guy with energy to spare. His mom told me that he LOVES to go for walks and you just about can’t wear him out. Badger has a lot to offer his new family. He’s crate trained, an experienced Go to Ground competitor, walks great on the leash, and is just a fun guy to be around. Badger has spent most of his life living outside so he won’t mind if you give him a nice warm dog house out back as long as you love him and spend time with him. And he sure wouldn't mind his little playmate, Dove to go with with him either! Badger would do best in a home without other males dogs. He’s a macho little guy and prefers to be the only king of the house. If you would like to know more about Badger, please e-mail me at joyoneil@hughes.net. We want to be sure everyone is compatible and Badger gets a forever home. If you're looking for an entertaining, sweet companion, please come and meet Badger. He is in our old shelter building.
