Poppy, NCAR 364
Poppy is a gorgeous and sweet Red Tri that was a stray in the Sacramento County Animal Shelter. Because she's microchipped, she was held at the shelter for almost 3 weeks while staff tried to make contact with her owner....no one claimed her. Our vet guessed her at 3 years old, but she might be 4 or 5...we'll get another opinion because she just seems to act older than three.

She was an outside dog only and has now become and inside/outside dog. She likes everyone, is very friendly and seems to have respect for cats. She can hop a 4 foot fence to get to me and I'd consider her Velcro. She's very lovey, quiet and only gets fired up sometimes when meeting a new dog or when there's a fence or barrier between her and a new dog. Poppy can live with another dog or be an only dog. She's a doll! Fostered in Grass Valley. Contact: Kim at kim@norcalaussierescue.com

Finn NCAR#352

Finn's family!
Happy Birthday Finn! He turned 1 year old on August 28. He came to us when he was only 3 days old. He is our cover boy for our Puppy Calendar. He's a gorgeous blue merle with his gorgeous tail. His mother is Layla from the puppy mill (adopted January) and his father is Bubba (adopted December.) Finn is a real goof ball who is still growing into his body..hes 59 lbs and a hilarious guy. Hes pushy, playful, and loves all people, even uniformed workmen! He fetches and plays Frisbee like a pro. Hes got a gentle nature and is very lovey.

See video of Finn and Eli playing

Finn has shown himself to be hyper reactive to physical correction, such as being forced into something he doesn't want to do or being physically pushed. He will do as he's told, but sometimes it takes a few times cause he's pretty head strong! With gentle, consistant leadership, he does what hes told. He wants to be a good boy and is totally smart.

He loves, loves, loves the water, whether swimming in the river, or playing in the kiddy pool or his red bucket that he carries around the Sanctuary! Hes been through puppy obedience and then attended our obedience classes at the Sanctuary at 7 months of age. Finn would do well in an active home near water with a playful, well mannered dog and people with a sense of humor who will keep him on track. Finn needs daily running exercise! Finn and Eli get along beautifully. No cats! Fostered near Modesto. Contact: Kim at kim@norcalaussierescue.com

***ADOPTED***

Eli NCAR #382
Eli is a 3-4 year old blue merle who was a stray into the Oakland shelter. We think he may have been kicked or hit. He's soft and responds to gentle commands. He's able to jump a 4 foot gate and wants to be with his person all the time...but he's calming a bit at the Sanctuary. He was enrolled in our obedience classes where it was evident he had no formal training, but he got the hang of it by the 3rd class! He tries very hard.

See video of Finn and Eli playing

He's Velcro to the max and kisses anyone who will let him....he even licks other dogs' ears and faces. This boy is not an alpha! He's very agile and capable, sleeps on the floor next to the bed or in his crate, and is playful with our playful dogs. He's affectionate, and has surprised me with his willingness to come up to strangers...especially men. He's best buds with Finn and they wrestle hard and bark at each other very well! Fostered in Grass Valley. Contact: Kim at kim@norcalaussierescue.com

***ADOPTED 9/14***

Max NCAR#xxx
Max is so affectionate and really wants to please. Max is deaf. He's 11 months old and will be your very best new friend if you give him a soft lap to snuggle up in and show him the love he deserves. He was surrendered because he was nipping at the young children in his home.

He easily learns hand signals and is very devoted to his person.. Max is a beautiful and happy dog. He weighs about 45 pounds. He needs running (off leash) exercise almost daily and would do best living in an active home with another playful dog his size.

See a picture of  Max camping! He's now 11 months old (July 07). Max lives with cats, and actually sleeps right next to them each night!

NorCal Aussie Rescue pulled Max from the Calaveras County Animal Services. Max is now fostered in Hayward. Contact Kim at kim@norcalaussierescue.com

***ADOPTED 9/16***

Sophie NCAR#359
Update 8/28: Sophie went to the vet to have her legs examined. She has luxating patellas on both her back legs which are not causing her any problems. The groove in her patella isn't deep enough causing her knee to pop out and back in. She is in no pain and runs around the Sanctuary with all the puppies with no problems! The vet said that she may or may not ever have problems, but if she becomes symptomatic, that both knees could be repaired at $1,500. Her front legs are abnormally curvy, like a bassett hound's, but the vet said not to worry about it and keep keep her at her current weight.

Sophie is one of the 10 pocket dogs we rescued from the Delano shelter. She's about 1 year old, 18 lbs. and doing just great with 19 big dogs! She charms everyone who comes to the Sanctuary and manages to crawl in their lap within 5 minutes!
She's very playful and very cuddly...loves to be in your lap. She runs like the wind, plays and wrestles with the puppies, Cassidy and Finn and just about anyone who wants to. She does love to cuddle on the sofa and sleeps in her crate every night. This girl is independent and curious (in true Dachsie fashion!) and does not always come when called! Smudge
Smudge is a 10 week old, neutered, blue double merle aussie. He is lively and has taken over the house of 3 dogs and 2 kids. He gets around really well even though he is deaf and sight impaired. He likes chew toys, especially human feet. Chases balls, plays tugrope. Needs a home with another dog. He's doing great at potty and leash training. He's fostered in Santa Barbara. for more information or fill out the adoption application at www.animalfriendsrescue.org

***ADOPTED***
Willow
Willow will be 3 in November. She's a pretty blue merle who walks well on leash with a Gentle Leader and does well off leash. She sits and lies with verbal as well as hand signals. She fetches and drops the ball. She loves strangers and just about all people and children, but is a bit excitable and can knock small kids down. She is rarely alone, but she just hangs out when she is. She's good in the car, walks well on a leash with Gentle Leader. She needs an active family, she's not an apartment dog. She loves to play ball, is afraid of thunder and isn't crazy about being brushed and is wiggly. Willow is in Lafayette. Her owner needed to move and can only keep her two small dogs.

Mater
Mater was saved from being put down at 4 weeks of age due to his deafness and one under-developed eye. Hes 9 month old, born 10/18/06. Hes only 35 pounds, crate trained, neutered, housebroken, and knows several hand-signals: sit, down, stay, wait and come. He loves other dogs, wants to play with children and loves every person he meets. He is good on a leash, loves going for walks, isnt a barker, and an all around great boy! Mater is in Lakeport. Contact: Kim at kim@norcalaussierescue.com

***ADOPTED***
Sheila
Sheila is a purebred Blue Merle found in Modesto. She was originally adopted from the Stanslaus County Animal Shelter and her adopter couldn't keep her contained, so she landed in the shelter again. Sheila is 5 years old and just gorgeous. She knows wait, sit, and down. Unfortunately, she learned how to escape from her yard, including jumping the fence and opening the gate...she was terribly bored and looking for people. She's being fostered with a woman who is home most of the time, and is a happy house dog. She is housebroken and waits to come back in. She is very people oriented, and enjoys older children, is a bit fearful of toddlers. Sheila loves swimming, riding in the car and chasing her Golden Retriever brother. She seems to have some herding drive and will circle groups of people. Fostered in Modesto.

Rocky is a 1 year old, neutered, black tri, Australian shepherd. This boy has energy to burn, he'd be great for agility, running, biking, hiking or any other activity your interested in. He just wants to be with you and will lay at your feet for hours while your working in your office. He gets along great with friendly dogs and loves to play. Seems OK with cats but I'm sure he'd chase them. He's housetrained, crate trained and learning basic obedience. He's fostered in Santa Cruz, CA. Please contact Sue@animalfriendsrescue.org
