Dundee NCAR# 409
Dundee is a 1 1/2 year old male neutered black and white tri colored
Aussie. VERY handsome and easy going. He was hit by a car and picked up by a good Samaritan. He came to us with no training and is still a little head shy. He's doing great on a leash, but will come really close if a car goes by.....smart boy! He's doing very well in his foster home and does great at the dog park. He loves playing with other dogs!

He is crate trained, gets along with all the other dogs he has met, ignores cats and shows no sign of aggression. He was pretty serious when he first came to rescue, but it is a joy to see him play now!

We think a home without young children is best for Dundee. We also think he'd do well living with another playful dog and getting obedience training. He's a very sweet boy and very, very handsome! Fostered in Sacramento. Contact: Kim at kim@norcalaussierescue.com

Candy Kisses

Cancy
Candy and family

These pups and their mother were confiscated by Yolo County and given to us in September. The pups were born around August 10 and they are definately small, like their mother, Mia. We think they are great agility candidates and will probably grow to be around 30 pounds.
Little Cassidy is a snuggler! Likes pets and being held and he pounds on Avi regularly, but Avi can shell it out too! He's confident and very loving and loves to be held by children and adults.

Cassidy is very sweet and has greeted visitors to the Sanctuary nicely! Fostered in Grass Valley.

Wiley
Wiley is a 7 year old red tri. His family is moving to South America and can’t take him with them. Wiley is outgoing and friendly and will engage with strangers and other dogs. He knows basic commands and allowed us to evaluate him without any hesitation. He’s lived in an adult home with Daizy, a 6 year old red tri. Wiley is in Cobb, near Clear Lake. ***ADOPTED***
Abbey
Abbey’s family (4 of them) were killed in an auto accident almost 2 weeks ago. A rescue group in Marin agreed to take her in because the remaining relatives were going to take her to a shelter and have her put down. Abbey’s 54 lbs. Friendly. Confused. Pretty. Spayed. Can you help Abbey? She's between 4 and 5 yrs. and would be an excellent companion for a man (her guardian was a male), although she likes women, too. Seems to be Cattle Dog/Aussie/Border Collie mix.

AJ
AJ is a little over two years old. He is a phantom blue merle, meaning he has no copper or tan anywhere on his body. He hasn't had much socialization but he is a happy boy. I am working on house training with him and manners. He would make a great agility or companion dog. Although active at times he settles down well in the house. He just wants to attention and he wants to please!. He is ready to bond to his own person. He must be neutered. He is about 18 inches. AJ is in San Martin.

Black Bi Male
This boy is named Grizzley and is about 18 months old. His family, including 5 children live on acreage with a Golden Retriever, some small dogs and other animals. They have the 3 rail paneled fenced yard, but it wasn't enough to keep Grizzley contained within their property. Animal control picked him up a couple of times and told them that they could not get him back unless they were to fence their yard adequately.
Sadly, they will not be taking Grizzley back. If only they would keep him inside, but guess that's not their lifestyle.
He's been at the shelter since Dec 13, 2007 and is a nice family dog!

Shasta - Aussie mix

Shasta is a 2 year old Australian Shepherd mix (possibly, Great Pyrenees). She weighs 37 pounds, is housetrained and uses a dog door. Shasta was found as a stray at a few months old by a loving couple that just couldn’t be with her as much as she needed.

Shasta is good around well behaved children and other dogs. I don’t know about cats. She is quite submissive and sometimes fearful of sudden moves that appear threatening to her.

MARCH 07 UPDATE! Shasta had double knee surgery (lateral patella luxation) in October and has recovered nicely!  She had surgery on her left hip in March, 07 - femoral head ostectomy, that cost about $1,100. She's ready to go to her forever home!

Shasta is a raw-fed dog and will only go to a home where she will be fed real food – NO KIBBLE.  For more information see www.katahdinaussies.com (click on Resources), books, web sites, or contact Jack (below).

Shasta is a well-mannered INSIDE dog and would do best in a family with someone home most of the time AND with another dog that will play gently with her. She is currently in a foster home with two senior Golden Retrievers and a young Golden Retriever mix – and loving it!  Her forever home should have very few, if any, stairs.

Fostered in Fortuna, CA. Her surgeries were expensive! Please contact Jack below if you might help.

Morgan NCAR #373
Morgan is a 14 month old blue merle who came to us from Yolo County. He was confiscated because of animal cruelty. He’s sweet, a little timid, but coming around well. He loves his toys and doesn’t like it when another dog wants to take it, but he corrects easily. He allows people to take them away….that’s good! Morgan has come a long way since we got him 3 months ago. He’s on his way to becoming a really nice Aussie boy. He walks well on a leash and is ok off leash, although he goes a little further than my comfort zone, but always comes back. Fostered in Grass Valley. Contact: Kim at kim@norcalaussierescue.com

Charlie Brown
Charlie Brown is a neutered male Border Collie who loves to play fetch and he is pretty good about bringing the ball back for another toss. Charlie also is a willing participant in playing tug of war with the rope toys. He would be an excellent companion for an active owner. Charlie is outgoing, smart, is great with a 3 year old child in his foster home. He is iffy with other dogs, so he should be an only dog. He weighs 77 pounds, neutered and ready for his forever home.

***ADOPTED***
Silver
Silver is a gorgeous 4-5 year old Cattle Dog mix who came into the shelter as a stray with his brother Blue. Both have been neutered, and appear to have been cared for. We just know a ranch somewhere is missing these boys! Silver is every inch a herding dog, checking his environment to make sure everything is in its place. Once he knew all was ok, Silver did very well on his testing, and was enjoying his interactions with us. Real hard to get a busy guy like Silver to smile for a picture! He is a great guy, ok with the other dogs, not good with the kitties, and just wants to get down to herding business. If you love working dogs, Silver is the guy for you!

Transfered to the Sacramento SPCA. www.sspca.org

***ADOPTED***

Blue
Here is happy Blue, the brother of Silver. Blue is a beautiful guy, quite friendly, and looking for the ranch he probably used to have. He is playful, very people-oriented, and ready to get out of the shelter. Blue was good with other dogs, not good with the kitties, and just an all-around nice, nice boy. We cannot believe that no one has come to find these guys! Confinement is difficult for active herding breeds. Come and meet Blue and Silver. They are already neutered and ready to hit the road with you.

Transferred to the Sacramento SPCA www.sspca.org

Stanley Aussie mix
This beautiful red & white boy came in to the Stanislaus County Shelter. He was out of time and so sweet....we pulled him and fostered him at the Sanctuary until the Nevada County Animal shelter could take him. Often shelters with space will help overcrowded shelters...and Nevada County helps A LOT! What a great staff!

I think Stan is a doll baby and I'd trust him with children. He's probably 18 months old and has been dreadfully overfed. He weighed in at 110 pounds at the shelter and is probably getting close to 99 pounds now. I had his hips and knees checked out, and they are OK now, but he's got to lose weight! He's a totaly love, loves getting brushed and petted and would be trust worthy around children and all people. He got along fine with all the dogs at the Sanctuary, too.

RED - Aussie - possibly Husky Mix
This boy came in as a stray with Stanley (below). They were out of time at the over crowded Stanislaus County Shelter so we pulled them and fostered them for a week. Wonderful Ruth at the Nevada County Animal Control in Grass Valley offered to take them, so they are splitting their time between the Sanctuary and the Nevada County Shelter.
This guy is gorgeous, sweet and medium energy. He's Housebroken, likes being brushed, would be find with kids....just watch out for food that's lying around! He's 89 pounds, not fat, just a large boy and easy to have around.

Tess NCAR #336    Puppy Mill Aussie
This girl is 6-7 years old. She's very loving and has come out of her shyness in her wonderful foster home. She plays fetch, loves the snow, plays nicely with other dogs and loves to snuggle. She's a good Frisbee dog, too! She can easily be an only dog, but should have opportunities to play with other dogs. Fostered in Loomis. Contact: Kim at kim@norcalaussierescue.com

***ADOPTED 12/3***
Dugan NCAR #159
This red tri is a sweet, calm Aussie who we pulled from the Sacramento County Animal Shelter. He is an easy-going dear boy who doesn't ask for much!

Dugan is loving and enjoys getting pets. The vet thinks he's about 8 years old. His front teeth are worn down and his coat and tail had bald spots due to severe flea infestation. Now that he's flea-free, his coat has grown back nicely. He's had no training, and is fairly independent. He would do best going on leash walks, hanging in a nice yard where he can run around looking for birds and squirrels and occasional trips to the dog park. He's fine with every dog he meets.

He is so easy-going that you forget he's around! He doesn't jump up and he doesn't bark at strangers. He loves to run through the grass just for the fun of it....we think he's feeling the best he has in a very long time! He is a really good boy who has shown us he'll go along with all the new new experiences we're introducing him to, including trips to LaunderDog for a bath! He is getting along just fine with his foster Aussie siblings. This is a no frills, no fuss Aussie boy who is calm and soulful. Fostered in Sacramento. Contact: Kim at kim@norcalaussierescue.com

***ADOPTED 12/2***

Molly NCAR #xxx
Molly is a lovely blue merle. She’s 3 years old, very sweet and fairly socialized. Molly and her pups were found in the back seat of a car in Yolo County. Authorities confiscated all the dogs and called us for help.

Although Molly has shown that she can be aggressive towards some dogs, she is getting better now that she's separated from her pups and her hormones are slowly getting back to normal. She has been spayed and is ready for her new home. We have only two of her pups available: Avalanche and Kira.

She's extremely smart, biddable and VELCRO! She's very obedient and lives with a 11 year old child and a cat in her foster home. She is a fence climber....just like a cat, and can scale a wire fence. So she needs to stay indoors when no one is home, or go everywhere with her person, which would be great by Molly! She might be OK with 6-7 foot wooden slat fencing. She's extremely agile, eager to please, very obedient and would make a great agility dog. Molly is being fostered in Sacramento.
