Zorro is a gorgeous boy. He is about 11 months old, weighs 52 pounds, already neutered, house trained, and has a long soft silky coat. He was adopted from the shelter in early February and was returned just recently. His former owner returned him because Zorro would chew up the furniture. Since his return to the shelter he is unsure of the kennel environment and a bit nervous of people. He is a cute, happy, playful boy who loves attention and would do best in an environment without livestock. He likes to go for walks and does well on a leash. This smart boy is eager to please and wants to be loved. Once you gain his confidence he will sit by your side and let you love on him as you speak softly to him. Zorro is in need of some time, patience, and a quiet environment to rebuild his confidence, keep his mind learning and in return he will be a loyal companion to his new family.

Tigger is good with children and people but would be best in a home with no other dogs. She has a loving sweet temperament just looking for her forever family to love. Socia NCAR #183
Socia (pronounced SOSHA) is an 8 year old, happy and beautiful red tri girl who lived with her owner since she was a puppy. Due to stressful family conditions, her owner is looking to find her a stable, loving home. Socia has lived with children aged 12 and over. She's friendly, sweet, and needs to lose 10 pounds with daily exercise and a monitored diet. She walks well on a lead and likes to nap on the couch. This is an easy-going, yet energetic girl who epitomizes the Velcro Aussie characteristics! Fostered in Sacramento. Contact: Kim at

***ADOPTED 4/28/05***
This young red merle Aussie mix is sweet, sweet, sweet! He came in as a stray. Did we mention that he's very, very sweet? He doesn't seem to care about cats and is fine with other dogs. He has been available since February 11. This is a good boy who is deserving of a home of his own. Located at the Clovis Animal Shelter near Fresno. Contact Teri at or submit an adoption application to us and we'll forward it to Teri.

***ADOPTED 4/26/05***
This is Lucky. But she is not very lucky as all. :( She is an 8 to 9 year old Australian Shepherd who is looking for a new home. She is already spayed, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations. She was given up by her previous caregiver on 1/11/05, because she was being evicted. Lucky is overweight and needs to loose a couple of pounds (but isn't too bad). She loves to play fetch and knows "sit" and "stay". Lucky is also housetrained. Her previous caregiver said she was dog aggressive, and seems to be OK with other dogs, but would be best as the only dog in her new home. She is mildly possessive of her food, so we do no recommend any households with children under the age of 13 or 14. (The children in the household need to understand to respect Lucky when she is eating her food). Lucky's impound number is: 99064.

You can visit the shelter at:
Sonoma County Animal Shelter
1247 Century Ct. in Santa Rosa (off of Airport Blvd)
or by phone at (707) 565-7100.

Sammy ID# 83920
Sammy ID# 83920 is a lovable, loving dog who would make an easy transition into a new home. He is very laid back and mellow and doesn't ask for much, other than to spend time with the people he loves. Sammy is gentle, calm and reserved, and once he gets to know you he can be quite cuddly and affectionate. Sammy is housebroken, knows commands like "sit" and walks very politely on his leash without pulling. One volunteer was right when she said that Sammy is "wonderful - sweet and smart!" Sammy loves people, but he doesn't like to share his space with other dogs, so he probably should live in a home without one. Poor Sammy was given up because his previous owners got divorced and couldn't find a suitable place for Sammy to live. Won't you come see what a great dog he is?

Sammy is in the Sacramento SPCA
6201 Florin-Perkins Road, Sacramento, CA.
HOURS: Tuesday - Sunday: 11:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Closed Mondays.

Levi NCAR# 181
Levi and Teddy with Lisa at a Doggy Birthday Party! Lisa loves her two boys and it looks like the feeling is mutual!

Levi is an adorable 10-11 month old blue merle with one Groucho Marx eyebrow! He was a stray picked up by the Visalia SPCA. He's only 32 pounds and needs to put on weight before neutering. He's got issues cause dogs have harmed him in the past. Once he knows the dog and if it's playful, he loves to play...but if a strange dog runs up to him, he's immediately on the offensive. He must be introduced to new dogs slowly and gently. He's head shy and doesn't like getting into the car, but he goes into his crate at home happily - go figure! From his behavior and a few scars, we think he was picked on by other dogs and probably never had "his own person"...he's timid and ducks low when strangers attempt to pet him. No growling though....and he will allow petting after awhile.

He's glued to me and comes happily when called. He's bright and agile and has learned to use the doggie door and is learning sit and stay. He skips and hops when I come home, and is a really cute boy who loves lying with his head in my lap. Levi needs a quiet home with gentle, knowledgeable people who will take him through an obedience class and get him out on walks and experiencing the world gently and slowly. He needs a home without children. He's not a dog-park candidate, but does great off leash in open space. Fostered in Sacramento Contact: Kim at

***ADOPTED 4/23/05***

Marley is a very nice 10 month old boy who is great with other dogs and loves to play with his Aussie sibling, Jonah. He makes everyone smile with his grin and his antics. He is black and brown with no white. His body and docked tail are all Aussie, his head is Aussie and something else...not sure!

We have learned (thanks to the large puddles in our parking lot) that he absolutely loves the water. We now have a plastic pool for him. It's great fun to watch him dig, roll and literally swim in it! He is great with all dogs, big and small and seems not to mind the cats. This boy is such a great dog..and loves his toys too. He weighs about 45 lbs and shouldn't be a real big boy.

He is friendly and sweet with a wiggle butt who needs a home of his own soon! Contact: Teri Rockhold at the Clovis Animal Shelter near Fresno. Email: or submit an adoption application to us and we'll forward it to Teri.

Max STAAR #4074
Max is a beautiful, dark red merle, neutered male. This boy is the sweetest, most well mannered aussie I've ever met. He's about 9 years old and this boy will do fine in any situation. He loves other dogs, cats, etc. He's very gentle, calm on leash and in the house. Housebroken, up to date on shots. He's just a happy boy that loves everyone. His recall is good, he knows all basic commands. I just can't say enough about him! His vet check showed a very healthy aussie with a little stiffening from Arthritis but that doesn't seem to bother him, he's always up to a walk, car ride or Frisbee. He's at a good weight at 55 pounds. If you would like a wonderful companion please contact Sue Trapp at 831-335-8193 or He's fostered in Carmel Valley, CA.

***ADOPTED 4/10/05***
Katie is a 7-8 month old Shepherd mix. She's learned to walk on a leash and is becoming socialized after having an extremely strange puppyhood living with the pigs on a farm! Now that she's living with her foster mom, she's up to date on vaccines, spayed, housebroken and crate trained. She knows sit shake and down, is very good with children and other dogs, also cats. This is a nice girl who deserves a great home where she'll get continued training and socialization. Fostered near Marysville. Adoption application required. Contact Kim at

***ADOPTED 4/10/05***
Sage is a wonderful 1.5 year old neutered Aussie-BC mix with his fluffy tail! He's a gorgeous red tri with blue eyes, but he's more than just a looker! He gets along very well with other dogs, does well with cats and even birds. He is very friendly and loves kids. Sage can sit, stay, and shake hands and is great off leash and on. He's extremely smart and trainable. His owner is gone for 10 hour stretches, and he's totally bored and understimulated. He would do well with another fun-loving Aussie or BC in an active family where people are with him and take him everywhere they can cause he's totally great! Sage is in Sacramento. Contact: Kim at

***ADOPTED 4/10/05***
Marty - ID #83597A
Marty is a 10-14 month old Aussie mix with his long tail. Staff found him tied to the front door of the Colusa Shelter when they came to work one morning. No one came for him and he ran out of time. He gets along fine with other dogs and seems fairly easy-going. Luckily, the Sacramento SPCA had some room for this nice boy, so we arranged for his transfer. He's strong, young and responds nicely to petting and playing. We recommend he be enrolled in obedience classes with his new owner. He traveled easily in the car, but would not get in the crate, so he hung out in the back seat. I gave him tummy rubs and he was very content. Marty should be available for adoption by March 17 or 18.

If you are interested, contact Kim at
or visit the Sacramento SPCA at 6201 Florin-Perkins Road, Sacramento.
Hours: Tuesday - Sunday: 11:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Closed Mondays and some holidays.
