February 2013 Recently Adopted Aussies

The list of adopted aussies is growing fast! Wonderful for the dogs but hard to show all on one page. We have split up the past adoptions by month. Use the links to see all our wonderful adoptions and adoptions we have assisted.

Henry NCAR Puppy
Henry is a Yorkie with his tail. He was surrendered to the Sacramento SPCA by his elderly owner who could no longer care for him. Henry is only 6 months old, neutered and a tad underweight at 5 pounds. He’s doing well with 3 meals per day, including ground turkey, pumpkin and steamed chicken. He’s used to sleeping with his owner on a bed, but is now sleeping in his crate and in the process of becoming house broken. He still takes some of his naps on a pillow on my bed though!

SOMETIMES, he can be intolerant and will growl first, then snap if he doesn't want to be picked up, or if he's near food....usually it's when he's napping and comfy. Because of this, he needs to be in an adult home where he can get correction and where kids won't get nipped. His food guarding issues have lessened considerably, and I really believe with consistent behavior modification, his "Little Prince" attitude will subside, but not completely go away. He’s really tiny, submissive with other dogs, and likes being held. Fostered in Grass Valley.

***ADOPTED 2/26***
Jilly is a gorgeous, 7 year old black tri. She loves to stick right by you, play fetch, go on car rides and basically be wherever you are. She’s in good shape, housebroken, crates easily, and walks fairly well on leash. Her owners needed to change their work routine, and couldn’t spend time with her. We’re finding Jilly a home where she can get to be with her people most of the time. Fostered in Napa.

Molly NCAR #849

Molly is approximately 8 years old and found her way into the Sacramento County shelter. No one claimed her. She's spayed, well-mannered, crate trained, loves all people and toddlers. She is cat aggressive though – her only issue!

She'd love to be an only dog, but can live with another dog who leaves her alone. She's great on a leash, shows me the "happy dance" and will make someone a wonderful companion. Just a darling girl - great with young children.

NO CATS! Fostered in Lodi.

Poppy NCAR Puppy
Poppy was a sickly 5 week old stray puppy that fortunately landed in the Sacramento SPCA where she received the medical care she needed. We were asked to continue her care and find her a wonderful new home. She’s fully recovered, smart as a whip, confident and friendly. She’s about 11 weeks old now, spayed, utd on shots, has her long tail, and weighs about 13 pounds. She should grow to be a 45-50 pound adult.
We guess she's a mix of several breeds, maybe shepherd, lab, way to know for sure. She’d do best with someone who wants to train a smart, active herding dog and who will offer her lots of adventures and activities. She's wonderful with children. Unknown about cats. Fostered in Grass Valley.

***ADOPTED 2/10***
Zeppelin is a 12 pound, 5 year old, neutered Mini Aussie Jack Russell mix. The people bought him from a breeder in OR and all was going great until they got two, female rescue dogs who fight around poor Zeppelin. Owner has two kids and a husband in the military and can’t manage the 3 dogs and her busy life.

He’s had great vet care, knows 4 hand commands: Come, go out, go to kennel, and up. He barks when meeting new dogs, but isn’t aggressive. He’s timid with new people coming to the house. He’s great with the children in his home as well as the children’s friends.

He sleeps in his kennel at night and when no one is home.Good in the car and fine in the yard alone. He’s good on a leash. He doesn’t seem to mind cats.

He would probably thrive in an experienced home with a well behaved able bodied dog, or as an only dog where he can get more training and lots of attention. He likes to play with people. Zeppelin is in Los Banos.

Chloe NCAR #511
Chloe is from the mini Aussie puppy mill in Washington that was shut down by authorities. Chloe is ultra timid, but not aggressive. Chloe is a 5-7 year old blue merle who weighs around 22 pounds. She's spayed, microchipped and upd on shots.

Her perfect home would be with a person who can work with her and help her over come some of her shyness. She is not a dog who should live in a busy household with children. She is not playful with other dogs...likes to stay by herself. She will never be an outgoing dog, but she is making tiny steps forward! Ok with cats. Fostered in Marysville.
