Maddie NCAR #615
Maddie and her family
Maddie is a one year old, small black tri who lost her home and was rescued by a neighbor. She was an outside dog and is learning now that coming inside is OK! Shes also learning how to walk on a leash. Shes friendly, likes children and is very bonded to her foster mom, and still unsure of her foster Dad. She still needs work and should go through an obedience class or two to desensitize her to the leash and to teach her the world is not scary. She likes to fetch, is smart and just darling. Shes about 35 pounds. Fostered in Sacramento.

Mazie
Mazie is a gorgeous, 4 year old, 42 pound red merle who lived her first 3
years ouside with her breeder. She came inside the house and spent time with
adults, but did not have much contact with small children.
She knows several tricks and skills, including sit, stay, shake, down, and
waits in a sit/stay for more than five minutes before dinner. She can do the
basic obstacle course at the dog park without treats or incentives - purely
on command. She also wears her own pack to carry water. She loves hiking,
swimming, playing fetch and belly rubs.
She's excellent on a leash, gets nervous when she sees large dogs, but not
with small dogs. She understands no, down, enough. She's been on organic
foods and is very healthy.
She is very reactive to workmen or delivery people and barks each time they
enter or leave the room. She is especially anxious around young children.
She does not seek out children and would rather stay away from them.
Because her owner is planning a family, she feels Mazie would be happier in
an adult only home where she might continue her training and learn agility,
herding, or rally because she certainly has the aptitude. Mazie is very
people focused and will make an active person a wonderful companion. Mazie
is in Hayward. Application
required.

Curtsy NCAR #545
Curtsy is a beautiful Blue Merle who we think is 12 years old. She's a good girl that's been lost in her senior years and landed in the Antioch shelter where no one came for her. She is fine with cats, other dogs, and is easy on a leash and enjoys petting. She's put on some weight in her foster home and is now 35 pounds, and is a delightful, petite girl. Sometimes she seems to have a "senior moment or two"...but don't we all?
She's game for anything and loves people and is very affectionate. We're happy to give her a chance at a loving home.
9/12 Update
Jean paid for Curtsy's teeth cleaning and the vet found a broken tooth which he extracted. She's a very happy girl and we're extremely grateful to Jean in Alamo for her wonderful and kind gift!
Fostered in Roseville. Contact: Kim at kim@norcalaussierescue.com

Dakota
Dakota is a larger than standard blue merle sheltie that came to us when his owner became ill and could no longer take care of him. He is 5 years old, 50 pounds, neutered, housetrained, and up to date on all of his routine shots. As with many shelties, he is shy at first but warms up to people quickly. He loves his stuffed toys and ball, and will play fetch for as long as you have the stamina. Dakota looks forward to his daily walks and rides well in a car. He is playful and affectionate, enjoys lots of human interaction, and will never turn down a chance to be petted. He will likely lie next to you while you watch a movie in bed. Dakota knows how to sit for treats. However, because he tends to pull on a leash when going for a walk, and does not come to you when you call him, he would greatly benefit from a formal training class during which he could learn basic commands. Although he grew up with his sister, a large sable sheltie, he is afraid of dogs larger than him and will chase small dogs and cats, but is in heaven with a dog his size with whom he can play. And because Dakota does not realize that he is a big dog, he tends to play rough, so he would be better suited in a home with older children, with whom he could run, romp, and wrestle. If you feel you could provide a good home for this handsome boy, please feel out an application on our website at www.norcalsheltierescue.org. Thank you for considering a rescue dog! No Cats. Dakota is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and spayed/neutered.

Gibbs
Gibbs is about two and has good Aussie energy. He loves people and wants to be with them... very much wants to please, but doesn't know much. It would appear he's not had a whole lot of structure in his "previous" life. He needs to learn boundaries and basic obedience.
He seems to have a tennis ball in his mouth alot, so easy to exercise! This is a VERY nice boy and extremely handsome.

Small Purebred Dogs Looking For Homes
Another Chance Animal Welfare League recently took some small dogs from a commercial breeder (aka:Puppy Mill) - these poor dogs have lived in a kennel their whole life and have been used to put cash in someones pocket.
All of the dogs have been temperament tested. They were scared, but showed no problems with being handled, and no aggression regarding food. In fact, most of them took little bites of food right off my fingers. We're updating vaccinations, and having them heartworm tested. They are being boarded awaiting spays and neuters, and can go to foster homes as soon as the surgeries are done. Since these dogs have lived in kennels their entire lives, they are probably not house trained. They are, however, crate trained and might be OK on leash. It's probable that none know anything about kids, so we recommend a home with older children versus little ones. We don't know whether they have cat-manners.
TONKA - Chihuahua (long-haired), male, 5 years-old. He didn't want to come out of the carrier and was very afraid, but was easy to handle and pick up. Tonka has a bad tooth which needs to be pulled, so that will be done at neutering.
BUBBA - Japanese Chin, male, 4 1/2 years-old. Didn't like coming out of his crate, but once he got outside, he showed some of his adorable personality. He will 'High 5' with his right front leg -- he is so cute! We were told that in normal situations, Bubba is very palyful and friendly. Easy to handle, OK on leash.

Sampson NCAR #469
Sampson lives with Linda and Greg at their B&B and vineyard in Sebastopol. Hes a perfect gentleman in the house and likes to play fetch in the vineyard. Were thrilled for him!
Sammy is a 5 year old, 60 pound blue merle. He’s friendly to people, loves to be brushed and is great inside the house as well as calm left alone in a fenced yard . He's being boarded, and sometimes gets to go home with one of our volunteers who loves him. She's teaching him manners, and he has proven to be a smart boy. He pulls on leash the first 10 minutes of his walk, but walks quite nicely thereafter. He would be best walked by an adult and not children.
He is not good with other dogs particularly in close quarters. It's best if he is an only dog and has an owner that doesn't need to frequent dog parks or have dogs over to visit the house.
He is moderate to low energy, is eager to please, likes strangers and is a loving boy. His owner is elderly and could no longer care for him.

Bear NCAR #613
Bear was adopted by Linda and lives in Menlo Park. Linda recently retired and has lots of time to spend with mellow, loving Charlie Bear!
Bear is a blue merle who wandered onto a property in Sacramento. An ad was placed in the newspaper, no microchip was found and he had no collar and tags. Were taking him to our vet for an exam, shots and neuter and will post more about him soon. So far, we think hes a nice boy, about 3 years old. His life just got a lot better-fostered in Roseville.

Buster
(pure) Rough-Coated Collie, 3 year old, M(n). Was owner surrendered a couple of months ago and adopted out but the gentleman had personal health issues and brought him back. Dog has skin issues (flea allergies?) that resolve with antibiotics and advantage/bathes. Nice temperament, good with dogs and cats, gentle enough for young children.
