Gypsy NCAR #558
Gypsy and her new home

Gypsy was picked up on the street by a veterinarian in Sacramento . He traced her microchip and spoke with her owner who said she didnt want her anymore. The vet called us for help. He also gave her shots, cleaned her teeth and removed a foxtail from her paw. What a great vet!

I called her previous owner and learned Gypsy lived outside for the past several years, which must have been terribly frustrating for this Velcro girl. Shes 6 or 7 years old and originally adopted from the Placer County SPCA . She likes children and was passed around to aunts and uncles at least 4 times. Shes used to making her own decisions and I really think she needs someone to love her and make her feel special. Shes a bit headstrong, but comes around if you dont give up! She loves being in the NCAR van and is a good watch dog. Fostered in Grass Valley .

***Rescued by the Milo Foundation ***
Blue is a four year old gorgeous blue merle who was brought into the Shasta Lake Shelter for euthanasia. The owner said she was "aggressive" and feared for her children. After questioning her further, the dog had never shown any negative behavior toward the children or other people, but she was afraid it would. The dog was, however, showing aggressiveness toward other dogs when they got close to the children, and she chased cats.

Officer Jim talked her into surrendering instead of euthanasia. We were immediately contacted and since we are so very full, I asked Kim Thompson at Butte Humane to take her for awhile and see what she's like. So far, she's been a gem.

SHE TESTED POSITIVE FOR HEARTWORM. Please help us pay for her treatment which will cost about $475.

Bandit and Lady giving kisses

Bandit was adopted from a shelter with his sister, Lady when he was 4 months old. Now at a year old, he and his sister were returned to the shelter because "they were too much" for the owner to deal with. Bandit is a red merle with docked tail. He's silly, happy and wants to please. They are happy and just need some time to learn not to be so exhuberant with their "hellos"

Dundee NCAR #481
Dundee lives with Dawn, Bob and Annie, his new Aussie sister in Grass Valley . He is very happy and loves his new family. We couldnt be happier!

Dundee turned two years old on May 23. Hes a gorgeous, sweet, headstrong red merle whose owner could no longer take care of him. Hes a lean 60 pound boy who is moderately active and settles nicely. He knows sit, stay, come (not 100%), wait, down, and shake. We're working on "leave it" as he likes to counter surf! This boy is WAY into FOOD!

Dundee is used to going to work with his previous owner and was a delightful addition to an open work environment, going inside and out as he pleased. He is fine with children and actually likes them! He loves our hikes in the Sierras and likes car rides. I think Dundee would be happiest living as an only dog with lots of play dates and trips to a dog park. Fostered in Grass Valley. Contact: Kim at

Macie NCAR #556

Jennifer found another perfect Aussie girl and sister for Z, Noels puppy whom she adopted 2 years ago. Macie gets lots of exercise and time with Jennifer and Z, but the icing on the cake is that she gets to go to her other home in Wyoming where she gets to run and play in the snow, too!

Macie was surrendered to the over flowing Stanislaus Shelter because her owners of 10 months stated, she wont come back when we call her Macie was bred and kept outside 24/7I think the only time she got attention is when she played the game try and get me!. Her coat is blown from giving birth recently.

This girl is a fetching machine, and absolutely delightful! So far, she comes to me when called, sits when asked, lies down, stays, rolls over and is getting along with everyone at the Sanctuary. She lived with children, is easy on a leash and is a sweet, small girl at about 40 pounds. She is a busy, reactive girl....would probably be great with livestock, agility or any physically and mentally demanding activity! Macie is all about being busy and going! Shell fill out and get a lovely coat. Fostered in Grass Valley . Contact: Kim at

Tramp NCAR #555

Tramp lives with Barbara and Rusti in Penn Valley. Barbara took Rusti through two agility courses at the Sanctuary and fell in love with Tramp! Tramp has endless kids to throw the ball for him and that makes him very happy!

Tramp was dumped out of a car with another dog in Stockton . The other dog was hit by a car and died. Tramp hung out in the vicinity for 2 weeks. Neighbors saw him pacing around the area while the SPCA picked up his buddys body. A nice gentleman finally got him to come to him and took him home where hes living with 2 female dogs and 3 cats.

Tramp loves to fetch, is sweet and has begun to trust Chris, the man who brought him home. Hes easy to have around. Chris had Tramp neutered and the vet thinks hes about 5 years old. He looks like a small Aussie with his tail, or a Border Collie or a mix of the two!

***ADOPTED 6/7***
Austin, NCAR #535
Austin lives with his new family in Grass Valley . He loves his little sister and is happy as any Aussie can be

This 4-5 year old Blue Merle is AWESOME! He came into the Madera shelter as a stray. He is very obedient....sits, stays. Has a relatively low energy level, but LOVES water!! Loves to go for rides in the car, understands when you say "bye bye". Gets along great with other dogs.

He bonded to his foster mom immediately. Chases cats but its all about the chase, will not hurt them. He would do fine in a home with cats though. He does talk....lots! He actually howls like a hound....funniest thing!

He gets upset if put him in a kennel and can see his foster mom....he barks and howls because he wants to get out and be with her.

Hes 57 pounds and just gorgeous. He sleeps in a crate in his foster moms bedroom at night and doesnt make a peep. This dog would be a great family dog and would also be great with a single person. Fostered in Madera.
