Emma NCAR #637
Emma is a 4 year old darling red merle. A woman found her on Highway 20 near Marysville and took her to the county shelter. She posted flyers everywhere including her local paper and eventually took her to the county shelter where no one came for her. We rescued her and two days later received a call from a woman who saw a flyer. She said that Emma was her neighbors dog and that because they were divorcing, she took Emma in. She had no fencing and Emma wandered onto the highway presumably trying to find her way back home.
Suffice to say, shes safer here! We had foxtails taken from her ears and from her body, and the kind neighbor removed many as well. Emma is darling, Velcro, not interested in really playing with the other Aussies here. Shes housebroken, likes being inside and looks at me as if to say, "YOU GET ME! Thank you for letting me inside!" Shes 42 pounds, very loving and obedient. Fostered in Grass Valley.

Logan NCAR #636 AKA Rusty
Logan, whose name is Rusty, was reunited with his family today. He was very freaked by a thunder storm and wandered 8 miles from his home. Lucky Rusty is home again!
This neutered red tri wandered onto someones property in Loomis during the storms just before Memorial Day. The kind woman who found him posted flyers, alerted Placer County shelters, and posted him on Craigs list..but sadly, it became evident he was abandoned. Hes very sunbleached, which tells me he was an outside dog. Yes, he's very comfortable in the house, seems housebroken and has some manners.
I would love to get him evaluated for herding because he seems driven to follow and push my little dogs. Hes sweet, likes all people and children and is easy-going except for his herding of my pocket dogs! Fostered in Grass Valley.

Sarah NCAR #631
Sarah went home to Chico with Anna where shell be a store Aussie; meaning shell greet folks who come to Annas frame store. And to my delight, Anna wanted to adopt Sweetie, a 12-14 year old black tri who was found wandering the streets and came to live with me 2 months ago. Im thrilled for Sweetie and Sarah!
Sarah was a stray picked up in the outskirts of Sutter County. Shes an adorable black bi Aussie and were guessing shes between 5 and 7 years old. She likes to fetch a tennis ball, gets along with all the dogs at the Sanctuary and is very affectionate.
She has a shaved spot on one of her legs as if she had an IV, but were not sure. She also has some scrapes on her body that could have been caused by skidding along the pavement. She has a limp, but it doesnt slow her down.
5/10 UPDATE: We took Sarah to our vet in Sacramento for an exam and X Rays. Vet thinks she's 6-7 years old, in good shape, strong lungs and heart. X Rays showed arthritis in her elbow as well as in her back. No hip displaysia. The arthritis could be from trauma, but we don't know for sure. Vet recommends fish oil, glucousomine and condroiten as well as Rimadyl. She also said to limit ball throwing and any activity that makes her stop and go on her front legs. Dogs put 60% of their weight on their front legs, so her arthritic elbow is constantly getting worked.
This is a doll of an Aussie who trusted me to give her a bath, and let me apply medication to her tender spots. Fostered in Grass Valley .

Usher
Amber, Usher's mom, and his siblings have been adopted. Now it's USHER's turn! On 5/21 Usher turns 12 weeks old!
We were able to rescue Amber, Usher's mom from the Kern County shelter in Bakersfield at the 11th hour. She was about to have a litter of puppies, so she was not available to the public, and no group stepped forward to rescue her.
2/28 HOORAY! I awoke to little squeeking noises, and watched Amber deliver her tiny family!
2 red merles (1 female, 1 male) and 2 blue merles (1 female, 1 male). Although Mama looks mostly Aussie, and her puppies look Aussie right now, the pups are not purebred Aussies. Mama and puppies are doing well and Amber is a terrific mom.
3/16 Eyes are open!
4/1 I took our little family to our vet in Sacramento and she confirmed some had pneumonia, so they are all on another round of antibiotics...this time stronger! Mama stopped nursing them so I've been bottle feeding them twice daily since they were 3 weeks old. They are putting on weight, learning to eat from a bowl - what a mess!
If you are interested in Usher, please submit an application to us. Adoption donation $200. $250 refundable spay/neuter deposit required.

Kody NCAR #614
Kody is blissfully happy living in Concord with Jane and Mike. He gets to go everywhere with Mike and gets leash walks and off leash romps daily!
We pulled Kody from the San Jose shelter where he came in as a stray. He's 4-5 years old, neutered, housebroken, loves the van, knows sit, lie down, shake and will fetch. He is a huge Aussie and weighed 93 pounds when we pulled him in January. He's now a svelt 80 pounds and just STUNNING! We've done a full blood panel to make sure he's heartworm negative, and that his thyroid, liver and kidneys are healthy.
This is a loving boy who doesn't realize how big he is! HE ADORES children, is VELCRO and will bust through a flimsy gate to get to his person. He knows how to use his size! He's got a big grin and likes to stay close. He loves to play fetch and loves his toys. He's great off leash on hikes, too! Fostered in Grass Valley.

Brady NCAR #XXX
Brady loves his new sister Cora, and thinks his new Mom Karin and Dad Erik are pretty neat, too! Hell start puppy obedience and Rally very soon and will get exactly what he needs in his new home in Roseville.
Confident, funny and playful! This pistol of a 10 -12 week red merle came to us via the Placer county Shelter in Auburn where someone turned him in stating she found him on the road. We dont know if she actually found him or was surrendering him, but were happy to find him a great home where hell get training, lots of human interaction and love.
Hes ready to play with any of the kids at the Sanctuary, big or small and is pretty high energy. Hes got a tail that appears to be a very long natural bob for an Aussie. Brady certainly has the coloring and body shape of an Aussie. His eyes are turning amber and are in the green stage right now. Fostered in Grass Valley .

Bukshi NCAR #633
Bukshi lives in Atherton with Claire, Ken and son Gordon. They liked Bukshis loving nature, and will work on his enthusiastic pawing for attention. We are happy Bukshi is in loving hands and know hell love his big, grassy back yard!
Bukshi is a lovely 4 year old black tri who was raised with elderly people who only spoke Hungarian to him (Bukshi is a popular Hungarian dog name). They didnt allow him in the house during the day, didnt take him on outings or walks. The only people he saw were the caregivers for the couple. At night, he slept inside the house in the living room in a small crate, but wasnt allowed to roam freely through the house. He spent day after day outside with little to no interaction with any people or other dogs. He also was never groomed or altered. The elderly couple died 4 months ago and Bukshi stayed in the back yard with care givers coming daily to feed him. The house is being sold and a neighbor called us for help.
It's fun to see him prance around and run just for the fun of it. He's coming out of his shell and I just LOVE watching! Hes very calm and doesn't need lots of exercise or stimulation. When he first got to the Sanctuary, he behaved as if he was from another planet!
He likes people and will push up to strangers wanting pets. We placed him in a foster home where he proved intolerant of children under 12 who tried to discipline him. I'm sure he never saw a child before and doesn't trust them. Fostered in Grass Valley.

Athena NCAR #622
Athena LIVES and LOVES to play ball
Athena is a 5 year old purebred Border Collie. She was sold as a puppy to someone who gave her away about 6 months ago. She was found on 2/8 dodging traffic in Antelope. We scanned her for a microchip, located her breeder who implanted her microchip and got her entire story. She has lived with small children, has lived in an apartment as well as in a home with a large yard. Her last owner said she'd pick her up, but never showed up.
This girl is a jewel who were happy to help find a home where people adore her.
Shes focused on a tennis ball and will fetch as long as you want! Athena LOVES to run, and is not a dog for an urban environment where she could slip out the front door and run through a busy neighborhood. She knows where I am, but still likes to run and run before coming back to me.
She is not mouthy at all and seems not to bark much. Shes fine around other dogs, housebroken, and easy to have around. Fostered in Grass Valley.
