Zane NCAR #918
Zane lives in San Francisco with John where they'll get to be together pretty much all the time. Obedience, agility, hikes and road trips are in Zane's future!
Zane is a friendly, darling, 45 pound, 5 year old blue merle who couldn't tolerate the 10 month old baby in his home. He likes children old enough (8 yrs and up) to throw the ball for him though! He's adjusting well to the Sanctuary, housebroken, and well behaved. His previous owner stated that he chases cats.
Zane was recently diagnosed with DLE (discoid lupus), which is an autoimmune disease that is strongly exacerbated by exposure to sunlight. In general, it is very responsive to treatment with doxycycline and niacinamide, but occasionally prednisone is used for tough cases. Avoiding exposure to sunlight during the hottest times of the day as well as using sunscreen helps quite a bit. So Zane should not live at the beach! DLE rarely goes away and never comes back, but if owner is good about his treatment, it can be managed and not be a problem.
We started him on his meds 3/6/14 and already have seen huge improvement. Our vet says she'll re-evaluate him after he's been on the meds for 3 months....or early June. The doxycyline is $150 per month at CVS, so I'm hoping he won't have to stay on it after June!
Fostered in Grass Valley.

Brody NCAR #883
Brody lives in Paradise (literally!) with a loving couple who wanted a gentle soul who is easy on a leash. They are with him pretty much all the time, which is always a good thing!
Brody is a 7- to 9-year-old black bi boy who was picked up as a stray by Stockton Animal Control. No one came for him and he spent too long at the shelter, so we rescued him.
He's so mellow and sweet nothing upsets him! He likes food to the point that he might counter surf if left alone! He walks well on lead, will chase a running cat, but leave a calm cat alone. He's a bit hearing impaired - but not deaf. He gets along with everyone at the Sanctuary, likes meeting strangers and getting pets. Fostered in Grass Valley.

Murphy NCAR #59
Murphy lives with Nancy and her 2 cats in Grass Valley. He's blissfully happy being with Nancy all the time and getting to play fetch as much as he wants!
Murphy is a 13-month-old, 7-pound Chorkie whose people brought him into a vet's office because he was very sick. They dropped him off and didn't come back for him. Murphy tested positive for Parvo, so the vet treated him and kept him at his home for 4 weeks until he was healthy. The vet asked several rescue groups to take him, but no one responded. He was leaving on vacation and was about to take Murphy to the shelter when he got a tip to call me. Sucker for the little yellow dogs I am.
He's adorable, sweet, friendly, crate trained, snuggly, and mellow. Loves to cuddle under the blankets and is fine with cats, too! Fostered in Grass Valley.

Bear
Bear lives in Cotati with Esther and George and his big brother, Shadow. He will always be with his new family, whether its trips to the park or beach, or hanging in the house!
Bear is a darling 8 year old black tri who weighs only 40 pounds. His owners adopted him 4 years ago from friends who moved to Africa and now they are losing their home. They had 2 dogs already when they took in Bear, and can't find a place that will allow 3 dogs.
He is fine meeting strangers in public, but he barks madly at UPS, mail carriers and anyone in uniform coming to the house! So much so, that they put him in another room when signing for deliveries.
He's obedient, walks well on a lead, lived with chickens and children. He loves to snuggle, is good off leash and good alone in the house.
Fostered in Grass Valley.

Tiger
Tiger lives with Carrie in Pleasanton and gets to be her co-pilot when she visits her clients: horses! Carrie is an equine vet and is happy to have sweet Tiger by her side.
Tiger is a 7 year old black tri who weighs about 50 lbs. He was purchased from a breeder at 15 weeks of age. He is up to date on all shots.
Tiger is a family, indoor-and-outdoor dog, house-trained (knows to ring the bell at the sliding door to go to backyard), likes to spend time with family members but is timid around people he does not know.
He is very gentle, has never bitten, seldomly barks, does not chew things inside the house, never chewed/destroyed any slippers. He has never eaten human food. He is rather calm inside the house and active in the backyard. He likes to go out in a car and take a walk, and he even likes to take bath.
His owners have no time for him and asked us to find him a wonderful home. Fostered in Grass Valley.

Lola NCAR #926
Lola lives in El Dorado with Elen and Derrick who will take her along wherever they go, but mostly theyll play fetch with her on their 10 acre ranch.
Lola's owner is quite ill and asked us to find her darling blue merle a wonderful new home. Lola just turned 7 years old in April, has lived with children, cats and other dogs, although she would love being an only dog. She adores fetching a tennis ball and brings it right back to you. She knows sit, wait, lie down and come. She greets every stranger with enthusiastic smiling and butt wiggling. She's a tad over weight at 60 lbs, but she's a big girl who should probably weigh 52-55 lbs. She is in great shape, extremely friendly and well mannered in the house. Fostered in Grass Valley.
