Babs NCAR #626

Babs and her family
Babs is a 4 year old black tri mini who was an outside dog used for breeding. She has had 3 litters of pups in her young life. Her owners surrendered her to a shelter a month ago because she chased their horses.

So a kind neighbor adopted her and asked us to take her because she wants to get into their chicken coup really badly! Babs is about 30 pounds, is now housebroken and is becoming a nice inside and outside girl. She has a very sweet disposition, is wonderful with children, other dogs and even cats! She will chase livestock, including horses, goats and chickens. Perhaps agility is in her future!

Kitt NCAR #597

Kitt goes home
Kitt (Kittaroo) turned 9 years young on May 1, 2009. He's a beautiful, sweet blue merle from Twin Oaks Aussies. He's only about 43 pounds, very healthy and easy going, yet playful with his foster sister, Cody. His family separated and he wasn't getting enough human attention, so he was surrendered to us. He did get a run every morning and made several trips to the dog park each week...this boy is in great shape!

This is a very nice boy who wants to stay close to his people. He gets anxious if left alone too long, so a home where someone can be with him most of the time is best. Although he was raised with a guinea pig, he lunges at cats on walks, so he's better off with No CATS. Fostered in Grass Valley. No Cats!

Hank NCAR #XXX
Hank is a 4-5 year old red tri adopted from the Sacramento County shelter about 3 months ago. His owner is elderly and feels he cant give him the home he needs, with plenty of exercise and stimulation. Hank can jump a 5 foot fence, but will only do so if hes bored or scared. He likes other dogs and does ok on leash walks. Hes adjusting to life in a home, but needs more training and guidance.

Ginger Snap NCAR #608
Ginger lives with Anne, Myrna and her Aussie sister, Mandy in Donner Lake and also go to their large ranch in Calavaras County to romp around in the hills. Anne and Myrna are neighbors of Sunny who was adopted from us almost 3 years ago. I love my visits to Donner Lake!

We rescued Ginger from the Placer County shelter on 11/23, the minute her stray hold was up. She has been happily running around the Sanctuary, sits for pets and is a wiggle butt! We guess shes about 3 years old. Shes just a delight.

She tested positive for heartworm. Her last heartworm treatment will be on 2/8 and then she'll be spayed.

Miss Ginger is a bit of a bossy Aussie with other dogs...would not be a great candidate for regular trips to the dog park. She is friendly to every person she meets, even on leash walks. Fostered in Sacramento. OK with cats, she wants to play with them!

Nicky NCAR #612

Nicky goes home
Nicky was brought into the Sacramento Animal Shelter on 12-8 by a concerned neighbor because he was outside day and night and it appeared no one was home. County officials posted a notice at the vacant home explaining that their dog had been brought in and gave them till 12-24 to pick him up. No one came for him and we rescued him on Christmas Eve.

Nicky is a bouncy, one year old red merle with two beautiful blue eyes, a natural bob tail and lots of love to give. He is a wiggly boy who loves attention and petting and is eager to learn. He needs obedience classes so he learns whats expected of him. He is fast, strong and totally unaware of his size! Hes all wiggles when around me and will calm down with gentle petting and calm voice. Hes lying at my feet as I write this.
Fostered in Grass Valley. Contact: Kim at kim@norcalaussierescue.com

Skeet now ZEKE NCAR #589

Zeke goes home
Skeet is a 10-11 year old red tri who came into the Kings County Animal shelter as a stray. He was so full of mats and foxtails, that the only solution was to shave him. As Teri says about his new haircut, "He's built for speed!"

Skeet's story is unbelievable... proof that these dogs are absolutely resilient, no matter what unkind things humans have done to them. Teri who runs the Kings County shelter had him heartworm tested and neutered and while he was being neutered, the vet found a .22 bullet in his knee. NO WONDER HE LIMPED!

The vet removed the bullet and his teeth cleaned and a couple were pulled. He's playful, likes his stuffed toys and is game for anything. His dental bill cost $300...seeing him so happy and animated...priceless! Help towards his dental bill is greatly appreciated!

Skeet is the nicest and most easy-going dog ever! He prefers to be at my side day and night, but doesnt get anxious if Im not around. He gets along with all dogs he has met, and will be ok with a mellow cat. He rarely barks and never complains. He lets you handle him and trim his feet very easily and is very relaxed at the vets office. He loves toys. All in all, he is a very affectionate boy and everyone likes him. Skeet is almost completely deaf. Fostered in Concord.

Megan NCAR #620

Megan and her family!
Megan is a 3-4 year old blue merle. We treated her for heartworm and she's now healthy!

Megan is very people social, and also seems dog social. She is a low to medium energy Aussie with an easy going personality. She really likes to stay close to her person. We've not tested her with cats. Their owner kept them outside 24/7 and they kept breaking through the field fencing and so he gave up on them. I really like this girl....she's a sweetie. OK with cats.

Thank you for Your Help for Megan
Megan tested positive for heartworm, and with your help, we had her treated and she's now heartworm free and healthy! PayPal.

Shazam
Shazam is a fun-loving, handsome/adorable Australian Shepherd mix. Shazam is very active and energetic, and will need a home where he gets plenty of exercise and mental stimulation. Potential adopters should have dog experience and do some research on herding breed dogs to make sure that an active Aussie is a good match for their family. Shazam loves to play with balls and would make a wonderful exercise companion.

***ADOPTED***
Shasta
This beautiful girl is Shasta, a two and a half year old Australian shepherd. Shasta was surrendered to the shelter in January 2010 because her family didnt have enough time to spend with her. Shasta was an indoor dog with outdoor privileges and is housetrained. She was in an outdoor kennel when left alone and did okay other than some barking. Shasta lived with kids between the ages of seven and twelve and her family said she was great with them. We believe Shasta would be fine with kids that are as young as five because she can be rambunctious at times, but is very sweet and loving. Shasta has been introduced to our office cat and was very interested in chasing him, so she needs to find a home without any cats. Shasta didnt live with dogs in her previous home. When she met some at the shelter she was very selective. Shasta is what we like to call a bossy Aussie. She likes things her way and if another dog is going to bother her too much, she will not tolerate that. If Shasta lives with another dog it would have to be easy going and preferably older, although Shasta would prefer to be the only dog in the home. Shasta knows all of her basic commands and is very well behaved. She does pull a bit on the leash, but walks very well with an Easy Walk harness. Shastas previous owner described her as, friendly, playful, affectionate and active. She adores people and is very eager to please.

Shasta is located at the Butte Humane Society in Chico

Tank NCAR #624

Tank and his mom
Tank is a 12-15 month old Aussie with his tail. He's 53 pounds, is utd on shots and heartworm negative. He's lived with another Aussie, a cat and a 12 year old girl whom he loves! He has had obedience training and knows sit, down, over, off, go to bed. He's been eating Avoderm chicken and rice, sleeps on his dog bed next to his Aussie sister in his owner's bedroom. He loves to play with other dogs, is not leash aggressive, and only barks at other dogs he sees through the window.

He's friendly to strangers in public and in the home, and will actually solicit pets. He is such a loving, openhearted, fun and funny fellow! Very, very affectionate, and just wants to please his people. He lives nicely with an indoor cat who adores him, but will chase the outside cat that doesn't like dogs! He is young and energetic, and somewhat dominating, but can be corrected.

The landlord changed his policy, and has limited the number of dogs to one. The family is heartbroken and we're trying to find him a foster or forever home as asap. He's being boarded at Animal Den in Sacramento.
