Magic ID#A045295
UPDATE:Magic was adopted 6/24 and then returned because a vet thinks she has a partially collapsed larynx or paralyzed larynx...meaning she sometimes has difficulty breathing. If this is indeed the case, she should not be exercised strenuously and should not get over heated.

Since Magic is a senior at 8 year old, surgery is not recommended by our vet. We would like to rescue her, but have been advised by Tahoe Vista staff that they will make sure she gets a good home. So please, if you have room in your heart for this spayed blue merle girl PLEASE adopt her! She's a favorite of the staff at the shelter. She loves people and will make a nice companion. ***ADOPTED***
Ace

Ace is a 4 year old Aussie mix male dog who has had a really hard time of it. The wrong people adopted him from the shelter and he escaped and came back twice. Ace is hearing impaired and we think he may be vision impaired slightly. He does know hand commands and gets along with other dogs.
Ace has been with us a while and has been rejected by two local Humane Societies, who apparently didn't want to take the time to really get to know Ace and to really provide him what he needs to become more adoptable. The stressful shelter environment is not the place for him.
HE IS THE ACE OF OUR HEARTS and we want desperately to find that special someone who will give him what he needs.....which is mostly love and a stable home.

Flood NCAR #590
Flood is a 3 1/2 year old, red tri boy who has worked sheep all his life. He loves people, children and is fine in the house. He lived his life working sheep on an Indian reservation, and was given to a friend who needed a working dog. After only a weel in his new home, the rancher was about to shoot him because Flood didn't get along with his other intact male Aussie around their food bowls.

Flood was rescued by one of the rancher's family members and is doing quite well living in a home with other dogs and children. He did chase after a bicycle (along with another Aussie in his foster home, so an urban environment might not be good for him!

Flood is very sweet, obedient and Velcro. We would like to see him in a home where he could work sheep as well as be a house dog. We've neutered him and brought him up to date on his shots. Fostered in Woodland. Contact Kim at kim@norcalaussierescue.com

Maggie

Maggie is a purebred Border Collie. Shes bright as all get up! Shes 8 years old and you would think she was under 2. She LIVES for the Frisbeeand wants to be active/pet/cuddled 24/7. She is a love pig and loves to eat. She loves everyone and everything. Shes fine with kids and cats. She is more the agility/search and rescue type of breeding vs. the herding type. I did agility with her a year ago and she took to it amazingly (the teacher told me to keep up with HER). However, with that and with Frisbee sessions she pushes herself and, like any middle-aged human weekend warrior, she gets a bit sore and a bit slower to get up afterwards. She is on fish oils and glucosamine and condroitin.

Lexi NCAR #550

Lexi and family
Lexi is a darling, well behaved, "fetching machine" at 8 years old. She is very smart, obedient and sweet, plus has a soft mouth I love her! She lived with a family with small children and cats up until her owners surrendered her to us. She is taking Potassium Bromide for seizures, and hasn't had an episode since she was surrendered to us on Mother's Day, May 12.

She went to our vet for a full exam 5/13 and weighed in at 78 pounds. Since then she's dropped to about 60 pounds... I think all the swimming, fetching and measured food did the trick! She's healthy and vet suggested she stay on Potassium Bromide. She's always at my feet plopping a tennis ball in my lap, and sometimes she falls asleep with the ball in her mouth! She can spend time inside or out - very easy.

She had a blast at the reunion at Pt. Isabel. She was in the water the entire time because there were so many tennis balls to fetch! Lexi would do great with some kids who would throw the ball for her and even better if she had a swimming pool! Fostered in Grass Valley. Contact: Kim at kim@norcalaussierescue.com

Shes about 4 or 5, and 45 pounds, has 2 small fatty tumors that arent worrisome. Shes very pretty, housebroken, fine around all the dogs at the Sanctuary. Fostered in Grass Valley.

Muji NCAR #599

Mujji, Bowie and family
Mujji was born 2-10-09, and her mom is Zee, a purebred Aussie and her dad is a purebred Golden Retriever. At 53 pounds, she already outweighs her mom! Shes a darling girl who is learning to accept other dogs as well as learning to trust me and other people. Shes coming up to visitors now and is getting the hang of living with well socialized dogs at the Sanctuary. She is very pretty, lived inside and is housebroken. She is loving, very pretty and should be taken through at least one group obedience class and get continued socialization. Fostered in Grass Valley.

Bowie NCAR Puppy #14
Bowen (or Bowie as we now call him) is a 9 month old mini red tri who is quick, alert and has had absolutely no training. His owners purchased him without thinking it throughhe was too active for a senior couple.

Hes having fun at the Sanctuary, is always zipping by me and wants to be near me at all times. He would be great at agility or herding once he learns to focus on his person and take direction. He is a good boy, loves children and is fine with all the dogs at the Sanctuary. Fostered in Grass Valley .

Bonnaroo NCAR #595
Bonnaroo and family

Bonnaroo (Bubba) is Lucy's handsome blue merle brother of about 75 lbs. Bubba is almost 5 years old, and is more laid back and reserved than Lucy. They both graduated from beginner obedience class when they were 1 year old. They have been around other dogs, lived with 2 cats and a 3 year old child. They know: come, sit, stay, nap (go to their crate) walk well on leash, and go to door to potty.

Bubba is a little gun shy around other dogs because he was attacked in May, 09. He usually looks for a safe place like a chair or his crate if a new dog comes to the house. Fostered in Palo Alto. Contact: Kim at kim@norcalaussierescue.com

***ADOPTED 10/16***

Dixie NCAR #438

Dixie and family
Dixie came to us when she was 9 months old. She hadn't been socialized and lived with her mother and litter mates since she was born. We adopted her to a kind, knowledgable woman with a 9 year old small dog. She got obedience classes, agility, lots of exercise and a ton of socialization. She was doing well up until she turned 18 or so months old. It was then she showed signs of fear towards the new grand child and a few people who for some reason frightened her. She nipped a few times and showed some re directed aggression towards the small, older dog in her home. It usually happened when someone rang the doorbell or came into the front door.

So we took her back and she's doing nicely at the Sanctuary where she can play with other playful Aussies and has learned she's not top dog. She's a bit hard headed, but otherwise friendly, biddable and a good girl for someone who wants a young, trainable, red Aussie girl. She's under 45 pounds, fast, agile and crates OK. Dixie would do best as an only dog with an experienced, active owner. She's fine with cats! Fostered in Grass Valley.

***ADOPTED 10/14***
Morty
Morty is a 13 pound, 3 year old, mini red merle Aussie. Hes got energy to spare and loves to run and play. Hes not great meeting new dogs on a leash, especially large ones, but plays well with the pug next door. He has nipped at the young grandchildren with no provocation, so his owners need to find him a new home. He is fine with children 12 and over. He has had no formal training, and would benefit from an experienced owner who will take him through obedience, possibly agility and give him lots of exercise too. Fostered in Sacramento.

***ADOPTED 10/10***
Lucy
Lucy is a 4 year old beautiful Aussie mix who was adopted 3 years ago from Sonoma Humane by an obedience trainer. Her DNA test came out primarily Aussie, then Borzoi and 5 other breeds. Shes about 70 pounds and has been the demo dog for her owner while giving obedience instruction.

Lucy knows sit, down, stay, walk on a loose leash, wait, touch, leave it, close(stay on the same side of a pole as me) She is crate trained and is fine with people, but can get a bit licky and nippy with her excitement meeting new people. This girl has never been allowed to run off leash in open space because her owner is concerned shell run off after a bird, a horse or anything moving! She is calm on a leash, very playful with young dogs and growls at large or dominant dogs in play.

She chases cats, has killed a baby possum, a rat and gophers. She is very smart and needs someone who will give her lots of stimulation and lots of running exercise. She goes on bike rides with her owner and gets running exercise almost daily. She would do well with someone who lives on fenced acreage so she can run and run in a safe environment.

Lucy is being rehomed because she and the senior Corgi in her home are not getting along. As Lucy matured, the tension escalated and both dogs are not happy. Lucy is near Santa Rosa . Contact Kim at kim@norcalaussierescue or Lucys mom Pat at pat_engel@yahoo.com. Application required.

***ADOPTED 10/9***
Daisy
About 3 years ago, a teenaged daughter brought home an Aussie puppy. The daughter moved away and Daisy was left with her parents who have no fencing and no time for her, so shes spent the last several years in a kennel.

Daisy is a good dog and has had obedience lessons but her home is next to a very busy road and Daisy likes to wander off. Fencing is not an option and so Daisy lives a miserable life in her kennel most of the time.

If you can foster or adopt Daisy, please contact Kim at kim@norcalaussierescue.com

***ADOPTED 10/8***
Rigby NCAR #592

Rigby and family
Rigby is a 12- 18 month old neutered red tri boy who is all wiggles and a big clumsy. Hes mouthy, excited and super sweet with a high energy level. He came into the Eldorado County shelter as a stray. He's barky when he's excited and when he wants your attention, but corrects fine once he realizes barking isn't going to get him what he wants. He sits, stays and has had some training. Rigby is thin and tall, and should mature to about 55-60 pounds. This is a young, boy who would do great with training and daily running exercise to stimulate both his body and mind. Fostered in Sacramento . Contact: Kim at kim@norcalaussierescue.com

***ADOPTED 10/4***
Pita NCAR #596
She has attached herself to my 9 year old son and he is so thrilled. She's got her new name tag on, and we signed her up for Courteous Canine Class. Honestly, the only thing she really needs work on is walking on a leash. She is a love; everyone in this house loves her dearly already! And I think she feels the same way.

Pita is a 1 year old black tri with her tail. She lived with children and her mother, Bonnie (adopted) and is used to a busy household. She was raised by Spanish speaking people, so shes being taught English commands in her foster home. This is a sweet, loving, Velcro girl who should be enrolled in obedience class in her new home. Fostered near Modesto.

***ADOPTED 10/2***
Juno NCAR #580

Juno & her mom
Juno or Juneau is a gorgeous 10 year old Black tri. Shes been well taken care of and we have her vet records and even spoke to the staff who said they all adore her. Her story is a sad one. Neighbors broke into the house to check on her owner whom they hadnt seen for several days. They found Juno locked in a crate next to her owner who has passed away, presumably a few days prior. She went to the Sonoma County shelter while police attempted to notify family, but no one came for Juno.

This is a big girl, like an Aussie bred for cattle herding, but shes a quiet pet! She can hang inside or out, but when shes ready for a change of venue, will give a soulful howl. Although shes fine at the Sanctuary, I would very much like to get her into a foster home where shell get more attention while recuperated from her ordeal. Fostered in Grass Valley .
