Roscoe
Roscoe is a 5 year old Red Tri who is friendly and wiggly when I met him. Hes very cute with freckles on his legs and a smile on his face! Hes tolerant of the toddler and small children in his home and an all around nice boy. He also lives with cats. Hes about 55 lbs and walks well on a leash. He did fine at the Sanctuary meeting a billion Aussies who sniffed him and followed him around.
This summer, as work loads increased for the parents in the home, Roscoe spent long hours in the back yard and doesn't get the attention or exercise he deserves. After much soul searching, it was decided that it would be best to find him a home where he could get the individual attention and exercise he needs and deserves. Roscoe is in Sacramento.

Dove
This is adorable little Miss Dove with sweet eyes that will bring a smile to any face. Dove is 6 years old, and now she finds herself at the shelter needing very badly a new loving home. She and her playmate, Badger, were turned over to the shelter by their owner.
Dove is a very special girl. She loves sooooo much. Sometimes she loves a little too much and wont share. To her family she is loveable, so cuddly and sweet. But once she claims her home she doesnt take to strangers coming in it and possibly hurting her people. She feels she has a duty to protect everything thats hers. I think Dove needs a home with no small children, and one with an experienced terrier person who will let her know they will take care of intruders. She needs a strong person to love her and she's so worth your efforts. Oh, and Dove has to be the only lady dog of the house, or the only dog would be best. What can I say. This little girl has a mind of her own!
Miss Dove is crate trained, house broken, and walks nicely on a leash. If you would like to know more about her please contact me at joyoneil@hughes.net We want to make sure her and her new family are compatable. Dove is in our old shelter building. Please come and meet her today and give her the loving home she deserves. Her heart is as big as she is.

Jane & Jack
JACK NCAR #395
This is a sweet, 3 year old mini black tri. He came up from the Madera Shelter with Sky (adopted) and Suzi (adopted) as well as 3 deaf mini Aussies that went to Animal Friends in Salinas. Their owner surrendered them to the shelter because he lost his ranch. All the dogs lived outside and never left the property. Considering how unsocialized they were and how scared they were when they first arrived, they are all very sweet.
This boy is loving, sweet and crate trained.
Loud noises, strangers and commotion frighten him. He's a snuggler who will do great in a quiet, adult only home. He is fine off leash once he bonds with you....however, we couldn't seem to get him out of his foster mom's lap at the reunion! Contact: Kim at kim@norcalaussierescue.com

Simba NCAR #414
Simba is.are you ready?? FIFTEEN years old, according to her owners who dropped her off at the Contra Costa Animal shelter because they were moving.
She lived with kids and likes all people...she's learned to live with a cat in her foster home. We had a full blood panel done on her and she's 100% healthy! She lived as an outside dog and her coat was dreadfully matted. She was shivering in the shelter kennel and jumped for joy when Gwen, her foster mom took her out and into her car to go home. Simba is now groomed and happy to be living in her foster home!
Update from Foster Mom Gwen 9/14 She leaps and bounds like a puppy. She can flatten herself out on the floor low enough to get under my bed but she needs help getting back out. I think she can pull herself in with her front legs but can't push out from under the bed with her hind legs. She's funny, playful and sweet. She made friends with the neighbor's Dachshund quickly and has been good with other dogs at the vet.
She is slightly deaf and has the beginnings of cataracts. She gets around just fine and doesnt show signs of any hip or knee problems. She loves her daily walks and is really excited to see me after I've been gone. Simba is a darling little girl who is very happy to be warm and be loved. Fostered in Martinez.

Phoebe is a 4 month old red merle who is timid and very sweet. Maggie is her mom, Remmy is her sister. Besides being beautiful, shes very lovey and coming out of her shell at the Sanctuary. She is learning not to be petrified of the leash, and still quite timid about coming out of her crate when called. She let two visitors hold her, and likes for me to hold her...she is a doll. Daizy
Daizy is a 6 year old red tri. Her family is moving to South America and cant take her with them. Shes very loving with her family, and stand-offish with strangers. She wouldnt allow us to take her for a walk away from her owner, so we evaluated her with her owner close by. She knows basic commands and prefers to be inside. She has lived in an adult home with Wiley, a 7 year old red tri who has been adopted. She has not grown up with children and has had little socialization, so a quiet home is a must for her. Daizy would probably love to be the only dog soaking up all the attention.
Daizy was temperament tested by a NCAR volunteer. Located in Cobb, near Clear Lake.

Bruin
Bruin turned 10 years old on September 13. Hes a gorgeous, 60 pound blue merle who has proven intolerant of children and recently nipped the 3 year old in his home. They have had him since he was a puppy, so this is incredibly difficult for them, but understandably necessary. Bruin knows: Here, Stay, Sit, Down, Leave it, and Come Around.
Bruin has some separation anxiety and would do best in a home where he can either go to work with his person or go to doggy day care, or where theres someone home most of the day. Long hours alone isnt good for him. He also fears loud noises, the beeping of the microwave, trucks and fireworks. He loves cuddling with his person, car rides and sleeping in the truck. Hes good off leash and likes walking in the woods. He also plays catch and Find it. Hes lived with dogs, cats, horses, goats, and llamas. He bonds well to others and is friendly to people. He gets excited when any family member or friend comes to visit and has a good memory and welcomes people into his home even if he has not seen them for over a year. He will also do this with friends dogs that he has known before but has not seen for a while. Bruin is in Santa Rosa.

Chico NCAR #411
Chico and Jamie
Chico lives with Jamie in Sebastopol and will be her companion on road trips. Jamie is a sales rep for a surf company and spends lots of time at the beach! Lucky Chico !
Chico came in as a stray at the Butte County Humane Society in Chico. Hes darling, extremely agile, and can climb and jump 6 foot cyclone fencing as well as a 6 foot redwood fence without any effort.
He's Velcro for sure, and we think hes about 15-18 months old. He is pure joy and sweetness without a mean bone in his body. He has not had any formal training and jumps up and hugs on anyone just for the love. He likes to play with other dogs, too. Chico is in Grass Valley.

Jack
Staff describes this boy as wonderful!
He's a great guy that came in as a stray. He bonds quickly with people, and is probably house trained (he's very reluctant to go poop in his kennel - inside or out). He does not like to play with other dogs and can pass, on leash, another dog w/out problem. If a dog comes up to him he might give a warning to back off and if the dog heeds the warning all is good. He was in a multiple dog run prior to passing his BE so he can co exist w/ dogs - he just prefers humans.
Staff thinks he'd be best in a single dog home. He shows no interest in chasing the resident cats - even though one of them has taunted him (he's taken out on a leash as often as possible) He'd also do best with a person that is home most of the time.

Desota NCAR #
Desota with former owners (left) and Celeste, his new Mommy (right). Desota lives on the beach and is Celeste's constant companion.
Desota is a 5 year old Red Tri who is a bit reserved when it comes to meeting new people. He warms up and is a loyal boy. Hed do best in an adult home where kids arent hanging all over him. He is very handsome, about 55 lbs and walks well on a leash. He did fine at the Sanctuary meeting a billion Aussies who sniffed him and followed him around.
Desota was purchased from Arthur Warren (shut down puppymill in El Dorado County ) as a 5 month old pup. Arthur sold him along with his littermate, Roscoe to a young family. This is NEVER a good ideaand no reputable breeder does this.
Desota and Roscoe are closely bonded. This summer, as work loads increased for the parents in the home, the boys spend long hours in the back yard together. They formed a little pack, and have gotten into fence fighting with the little dog next door . After much soul searching, it was decided that the best solution for Desota and Roscoe would be to find them separate forever homes where they could get the attention and exercise they need. Desota is in Sacramento and Kim temperament tested him.

Charlie
Charlie is a Jack Russell about 5 years old and was picked up as a stray. Poor little guys ear was injured and someone had put some tar on it to keep it from getting infected. Hes been to the vet and it looks like his ear will be fine when it finishes healing but some of it is gone so I believe it will always stand up.
Charlie is a very nice little guy, he's energetic and walks great on the leash! Charlie needs a home without other male dogs, and a safe place where he can run. Hes very much a people boy. He likes to be petted and is very people friendly. If you like the Jack Russell personality (never boring!), this guy will be so easy to love.
Please come and meet Charlie today. Youll have to ask for him as hes in the quarantine area because his ear is healing so you wont see him up with the others. Hes a sweetheart and really needs a kind home where hell be safe and loved. Save Charlie today. Our shelter is very crowded.

Mr. Famous
I am Mr. Famous, a Chihuahua mix, and dont let the chain fool you, because I am very much in control. I am quiet and loveable and easy to hold. I am 4 years old so I am full grown.
My disposition is as sweet as my face and I love to be held. With my short coat I would be easy to care for, but dont make me stay outside during this cold weather. In fact, could you please bring some old blankies when you come? There are a lot of dogs here right now and that means we use a lot of blankets! I am in the old shelter and have to be neutered before I leave, but I would love to watch the Superbowl with younext to you on the couch, that is!
If you cant adopt Mr. Famous maybe you could foster or sponsor him. If you would like to see more pix of Mr. Famous, you can email katzydogs-rescue@yahoo.com. Applications are first come, first opportunity, so if you are interested in any dog you see on petfinder.com at our shelter, please submit an application.
And if you come on down to the shelter, bring a friend with you to check out our new adoption center---maybe they would like to save a life also. Our shelter is very crowded right now.

Hannah is a very shy 7 month old puppy. She perked up a lot when our photographer (10-year old boy) petted her. She smothered him in kisses.
