Nikki is an energetic 2 year old Aussie mix who was found running loose in Modesto. She is spayed and up to date on her shots. She is crate trained in the house and in the car. and needs to be introduced to other dogs slowly. She probably was on her own for awhile and got jumped by other dogs, and needs to be introduced to other dogs slowly to trust them. Once she knows the dog, she LOVES playing with them. She is GREAT with children and cats. Nikki would do great in obedience, agility and anything else fun and exciting. She is fine staying by herself during the day with chew toys! This great girl is in Fremont. Contact Gina at 510-853-5433 or

Male blue merle, ID A003520 (Now Zip)
Zip is adapting very well. He's used to being inside and goes to the door to be let out. He is happy to chew on a toy at your feet and fall asleep. He is also taking well to the crate for sleeping. Zip really enjoys chasing the toys around the yard outside and would play fetch until he dropped if you let him. H jumps high to catch his toys! He is adjusting to the other 2 dogs and has a very easy going attitude. Thanks again for your great site and helping use find the newest member of our family.

Please visit him at the
Santa Clara County Animal Shelter

Maddie NCAR #215

Maddie and her new family

Maddie's baby pic, far left
Kristin, Maddie and Vicki in their wonderful yard! Maddie gets to swim in her pool, run through the sprinklers, and go to obedience classes! We're all happy she's found her forever home. The second photo is Maddie's puppy photo with her siblings. She's the one on the far left leaning back into the couch!

Maddie is a 6 month old purebred black tri Aussie who was born on December 9, 2004. Maddie was bought and sold three times already. She is very sound, quite smart and agile. She has great doggie communication skills and loves all people and children. She leads Dollie and Cheyenne around by their leashes and they don't mind...she's an excellent playmate, teacher and all around Aussie.

She LOVES chasing the sprinkler or spraying water from the hose...will run and jump till everyone is soaked! Maddie weighs 38 pounds and will probably be a 45-50 pound adult. Although she's been bounced around, she's rock solid...but she is used to getting away with things, like counter surfing and coming just close enough to get a treat, but not close enough to get in her crate! She is getting structure, stimulation and training in foster care which needs to be continued in her forever home. We believe a person who has demonstrated obedience and/or agility experience would be great for Maddie. This is an exceptional Aussie girl who we all love! Fostered in Sacramento. Contact: Kim at

***ADOPTED 6/21***
Elly is a 3 year old, spayed red tri Aussie girl who loves children of all ages and lives nicely with cats and other dogs. She's been an outdoor/indoor Aussie, and has had little formal training. She knows sit and is housebroken, but is not used to being taken for a walk on a leash...she's used to running on several acres. This does not mean she needs to be placed in a home with acreage! She will do great and adapt quickly in a home with a loving family. Elly is in Salinas. Please submit an application or contact Kim at

Joneszie is an 8 year old Red Merle boy at the Palo Alto Shelter. Hes neutered and current on his shots. Hes VERY sweet, good with kids and other dogs. Hes still pretty active and a bit overweight! His teeth could use a cleaning, but other than that, a GREAT Aussie boy! The former owners had him shaved. Here's the tragic reason they surrendered him: His family surrendered him due to remodeling. They turned him in his with his vet records and papers!

Cher & Sherry
Cher and Sherry on a walk near their home. Cher is coming out of her shell daily!

Cher is one of the Aussies seized by El Dorado County. She's malnourished, but seems to be OK otherwise. She's eating great, wholesome food as fast as we put it in front of her! She has great doggie skills and likes human affection...but is learning to approach people for it. She's very playful with dogs, especially puppies. She and all the other Aussies were completely shaved so the county vet could give her a full examination, which included tests for parasites and mange. Fostered in Sacramento. Contact: Kim at

Randi is a 10 month old neutered Border Collie. Hes a very sweet and loving boy and very high drive. Randi was bred to herd and he definately needs a job. He will chase a ball or stick for hours and he can run like the wind with his long legs. If you are interested in agilty or flyball, Randi is your boy! We don't think he should live with young children because of his energy level and herding drive. He really needs a person that will give him lots of love and stimulation. He can live with another playful dog as he's very dog social. Randi is currently with The Milo Foundation. Contact Abbie Reiten, 415-282-7144 and

***ADOPTED 6/16/05***
Sammy is a spayed, microchipped, loving and playful, med. sized 1 year old Aussie-Shepherd x who is great with other dogs, and knows basic obedience, but would do best with adults who are dog savvy and can spend time to exercise Sammy and build her damaged confidence so she will be more comfortable with other people. Sammy is very smart, eager to learn and focused on pleasing.

Destiny is a beautiful Queensland Heeler. She's approximately 1 yr old. She is up to date on her shots, spayed, is housebroken, and micro-chipped. She is extremely smart. She knows a few tricks like sit, lie down, shake and High 5! Some of her favorite activities are playing fetch and chasing water out of the garden hose! She is very affectionate and loves to cuddle. Destiny likes children and other dogs. Her owners never had a Queensland before and have learned that they need stimulation. They would prefer to find someone who is familiar with this breed who is able to give her the live she deserves. Destiny is located in Sacramento.

Elliott NCAR #206
This boy is a friendly 3-5 year old black tri who was a stray into the Sacramento County Shelter. He's got an adorable personality and loves everyone! Knows simple commands: sit, down, come, cookie! Fostered in Sacramento. Contact: Kim at

COLT #183
Colt is a gem with an incredible temperament. He's housebroken, leash-trained, avoids cats, calm, well-behaved, sweet, a bit silly, and fine with other dogs. He behaved great at the dog park, rides well in Jeep w/ 2 other dogs...oh, and he's gorgeous. He's probably around 3 or 4, neutered, up to date on vaccines and has a docked tail. What a guy! Fostered in Fresno. Application required. Contact Teri at

George is a really nice boy who is gentle and quiet. Here's an update from Ruth at the shelter: George is with us now and what a wonderful dog! I ask him to sit and he sits, I say "down" and down he goes. What a good dog. Walks nice on a leash and not a barker. He is going to make someone a wonderful companion. ***Gone to SOCAL AUSSIE RESCUE! Contact***
Kona is an extremely active 2 yr old, 35lb, australian shepherd/border collie mix. She has strong herding instincts and high prey drive so absolutely no cats or other small animals. Older children are fine, or even dog knowledgable younger children as she is very friendly but will herd and nip. Will probably do best as an only dog, but a mellow dog may be ok. Kona is looking for a very active, dog experienced, home... a family that is involved in dog sports would be ideal. She has been living with a marathon runner and got lots of daily running exercise. Her owner is seriously ill and hospitalized and unable to give Kona what she needs, so she's selflessly giving her up. She knows: sit, down, up, off, stand, touch, speak, spin, twirl, say hi, say howdy, roll over, wait, stay, come, heel, side, over, watch me, sit up, in your room, on your bed, out. WHEW! What a brainiac! The adoption is through Ohlone Humane Society, contact Tina Chan at 510.795.1906 or
