Sammie NCAR #487
Sammie lives in SF with Roz and Lee. Shell get plenty of romps at Ft Funston, get a power walk every morning, and have the tennis ball thrown for her as much as she wants. Sammie has the perfect life!

Sammie is a 7 year old red tri given up by her owners who bought her as an 8 week old puppy. She grew up with pre-teen aged children in the home. She's a very, very smart girl and quite obedient. We like her a lot!

Sammie is Velcro and a wonderful example of a companion Aussie. She greets visitors nicely and is, in my opinion, a great Aussie. She came to us at 72 pounds, and is now about 66 lbs and still reducing!. She likes meeting new people and does fine with other dogs, but can bully small dogs around food.

She opens cabinets, pulls down my towel so she can make a bed, and opens levered doors (not round door knobs) to get into the house to be with me! Shes very social and loving and LOVES to swim! I couldn't get her out of the river during one of our hikes! Fostered in Grass Valley.

UPDATE 8/8
She had 3 teeth pulled and a cleaning ($320) and is doing great... she must have been in pain for a long while. Help towards her dental bill is greatly appreciated!.

Bear NCAR #507
Bear is a friendly 7 month old red tri who is a big boy at 50 pounds....a bit overfed. Hes loving, active, happy and playful. Hes touched noses with a cat and didnt go bananas. Hes crate trained, but still has accidents in the house, so his potty training must be continued in his new home. He graduated from The Right Steps beginning obedience class a month ago and should continue with classes in his new home.

Bears owners are older and found that they couldn't give him what he needs, so with tears in their eyes, they entrusted us to find him the perfect home. This is a delightful, robust boy whom I trust with children, as long as they know they could get knocked down! Fostered in Grass Valley . Contact: Kim at kim@norcalaussierescue.com

***Re-Adopted by his Family***
Ben
Ben is a gorgeous 18 month old Aussie mix...possibly with spaniel. He was a stray at the Madera Animal Shelter. He has an old injury to his back right leg due to a break when he was a puppy and it went untreated. Ben has 80% use of his leg.

He is enrolled in obedience class and already sits on command and stays. Sits on command, stays. He gets along with all types of dogs, even the more aggressive dogs. Ben is more on the submissive side. He's very friendly with people in public and in his foster home. He loves children of all ages. He's trustworthy in the house alone and can stay in a yard without barking. He is a loving dog and would be a dedicated companion and likes to cuddle in your lap. He LOVES swimming and it's hard to keep him out of the water.

He also loves to go for rides in the car, Loves to play ball, Loves to play with cats! He's sensitive to loud noises and yelling....will retreat. He's lived with 9 dogs, 5 cats, 2 horses, and chickens. He's very sweet and has loving eyes. He was named Ben by his foster mom who saved him from the shelter because he's so gentle. Fostered in Madera.

Stray blue merle running loose in Rio Linda. Very nice dog, very thin intact male.

***ADOPTED 11/13***
Dakota
Dakota, 2 year old, spayed female, Australian shepherd

This stunning little red merle gal is Dakota, a two year old Australian shepherd. Dakota has been a bit of a frequent flyer at the shelter and the last time she came to us was in October 2008, this time, her owner never took her home. Dakota is the type of girl that will escape when shes bored. Shes never tried to escape her kennel at the shelter and has been awfully good, but if she isnt getting enough time with you out of your day she will get frustrated. Which is completely justified. Dakota is super friendly and outgoing with everyone, and is always eager to make new friends. She knows her basic commands and walks well on the leash. Dakota LOVES to play fetch and will play with you until your arm falls off.

She was introduced to our office cats and was very interested in them, the way we would expect most herding breeds to be, so she shouldnt live in a home with cats. One thing Dakota does love, is other dogs. She is currently living with another dog and although they had a few moments of getting to know each other which isnt always a happy time, they both got over it and adore being together now. Im sure Dakota would be very happy living with another dog, hey maybe that will help her loneliness. Dakota will be able to live with kids that are at least five since shes such a sweet girl, but has a definite herding instinct, and toddlers are fun to herd! Dakota is at the Butte Humane Society, 2579 Fair Street , Chico . 530-343-7917, Ext 104. or

Toby
Toby is a 6 month old purebred Australian Shepherd. Hes a beautiful red merle with amber eyes. Toby loves other dogs, has lived with cats (although he thinks they are plush toys to play with).

Toby is really good with kids, however due to his playfulness he can be a little forgetful and play too rough for smaller children.

Toby does need a bit of obedience training as most puppies do, he will require an active family who can spend plenty of fun quality time with him. Toby is in Salinas. Contact: Debra Long, 831-422-1269 Home, 831-320-9928 Cell

Benny is 35 pounds, mellow and sweet and is a bit shy with strangers, but then gives them kisses and will climb in their laps. He's very playful and bright, and loves tug of war - especially with his foster Aussie sister! He's a realy sweetie pie. He should grow to be 55 lbs.

Dexter, NCAR #500

Tina and Dexter dancing
Dexter now lives with Tina!

Dexter is a one year old red merle who was bought at 6 weeks and then kept in a 10 X 10 foot pen in the yard. The children would play in the yard, but Dexter was separated from them by his kennel. He often didnt get out for weeks at a time. Concerned neighbors talked to his owners, and came by to give him attention. Finally, neighbors succeeded in getting his owners to give him up to rescue.

He loves to play and his play level is ACTIVE! He plays with anyone, and if they don't engage in play, he tries very hard to engage them by poking at them! Dexter is learning to retrieve a tennis ball, but still doesnt want to chew a bully stick, and rarely slows down for pets. Its amazing he stayed still on the grooming table for me, but he did so very nicely! This boy is darling and joyful. Hes learning that coming when called doesnt mean that hell be stuck into his kennel. He's great off leash in open space, too. Fostered in Grass Valley.
