Nicholas - Aussie Mix

Nicholas was found running on the side of a highway. He was cold, wet, covered in mud and very hungry. He was covered in fleas that had already taken the hair off his back. With lots of love and attention from his foster mom, he's blossomed into a very sweet, well behaved boy. He's 1 1/2 years old and lives with another dog in his foster home. His favorite activity is playing fetch. He's amazingly athletic and could be a great agility dog. He's very sweet once he gets to know someone, but reserved at first. He walks well on a leash, but can get anxious meeting another dog. He's not a fan of all male dogs, but is just fine with females...so crowded dog parks are not good for this boy.

He lives with two high energy 10 year old kids and he loves them. He sleeps in a crate at night, is housebroken and rings a bell to go outside! His coat has grown back and he's gorgeous! He'd be best with another female dog who will romp with him, children 10 or over, and with adults who will give him formal training. The sky's the limit!

Please contact Kim at kim@norcalaussierescue.com or go to petfinder and fill out an application. This boy is being fostered in Yolo County.

Peter Pan
Peter Pan is an adorable aussie mix available at the Santa Cruz SPCA. You'll be sorry if you pass Peter Pan by! He is a sweet, friendly and handsome boy looking for a nice home. Peter Pan is affectionate and enjoys going for long walks. He loves to snuggle and has an overall nice temperament. Lots of potential adopters are overlooking Peter Pan because he is deaf. But deaf dogs make great pets just like any other dog -- with a few modifications to training and your interaction with them. If you are an experienced owner willing to train a deaf dog, Peter Pan would love to meet you. He already has a head start on his training because he knows how to 'sit' and 'wait' in response to hand signals, and is learning more with the SPCA volunteers. Pete is clearly a smart boy and a fast learner. Come to the SPCA and experience the magic of Peter Pan! km To learn more about living with deaf dogs, visit http://www.deafdogs.org To learn more about Peter Pan and see more photos, see Peter Pan's site http://homepage.mac.com/alexisraymond/PeterPan/index.html See Peter Pan on Comcast Digital Cable Channel One!

Scottie NCAR #402
This beautiful red merle boy was a stray at the Stanislaus County Animal Shelter. He had been sitting there for two weeks, but the shelter is so jammed that there are too many dogs for people to meet and he languished in the back. When we got word that his situation was urgent, we pulled him as soon as we could. Thanks to some wonderful volunteers, he was pulled and transported to us.

This boy is big and gorgous. He's maybe 3 years old, but had been eating bad food so his teeth were gunky. We had his teeth cleaned when he was neutered. He's fun, sweet, doesn't know much but it doesn't matter! Nice, nice, big, gorgeous red merle with 2 baby blues!

Fostered in Grass Valley. Contact: Kim at kim@norcalaussierescue.com

***ADOPTED 10/27***

Beau NCAR# 365
Beau is 2-4 years old and very, very sweet. He's a Border Collie- Aussie mix who looks all Border Collie, but doesn't move like one. He was found in a pasture near Hollister, covered in fleas and starving to death.

As you can see, he's incredibly endearing! Beau was taken in the Penninsula Humane Society and named Buster, but we renamed him Beau because it's more fitting for this gorgeous boy. He is blind in one eye and has vision impairment in the other, but he doesn't miss a beat at the Sanctuary. He can startle at meeting new dogs and sometimes doesn't like it when they approach him. But it's nothing serious.

See Beau in the pool

He loves meeting new people and solicits pets shamefully. He's done just great meeting all of the crew at the Sanctuary and is just a darling, darling boy who should go into an obedience class immediately. Fostered in Grass Valley. Contact: Kim at kim@norcalaussierescue.com

***ADOPTED 10/21***
Bonnie NCAR #370
Bonnie is a calm, sweet 2-3 year old blue merle. She was a stray at the Sacramento County shelter. She likes toys, can live easily with other dogs, and likes the car and the swimming pool! She barked at a 7 year old boy who visited yesterday, but then slowly investigated and decided he was OK! Clearly, she hasn't been around children.
Bonnie also is dominant when meeting new female dogs. It isn't anything serious, but she certainly is feeling sure of herself. Fostered in Grass Valley . Contact: Kim at kim@norcalaussierescue.com

***ADOPTED 10/25***
Mia NCAR #xxx
Mia is a 15 month old, loving, timid mini Blue Merle Aussie...she's quite gorgeous! Shes petite and weighs only 30 lbs. Her pups are small, too! Mia and her pups were found in a bathtub and confiscated by Yolo County authorities. We were asked to take them and they are being fostered in Auburn.

PIPER, NCAR #370
Piper is a 15-18 month old Aussie mix....possibly with Spaniel. He loves people and other dogs, but is especially fond of children. He lived with teenagers and often visited with toddlers. He spent too much time alone in his back yard and managed to find his way over to a school play yard at a nearby school to see the children.

He's 55 pounds, very sweet and knows a few commands. He plays nicely with dogs and he's sharing toys with Megan and Ellis, so he's sensitive to puppies! This is a lovable boy who wants to be with people. He has also lived with many cats and is just a dear boy. Fostered in Grass Valley. Contact: Kim at kim@norcalaussierescue.com

Megan

8/29 At 6:15 this morning Megan cried out in pain from under the deck. She crawled out and screamed for 10 minutes. I heard a hissing from under the deck and guessed it was a rattlesnake. I took her to emergency in Sacramento and her leg had swolen 4 times its size. She had 2 puncture wounds and was immediately admitted. I called Dave, our Sanctuary contractor and asked him to please find the snake that bit Megan. Within 10 minutes he called me back to say he found a 2 foot rattlesnake and killed it.
Complete story on our Megan feature page.

See video of her homecoming

Megan is a darling, small, 14 week old blue merle with her tail...she is pure joy. She is totally deaf, but you'd never know it till you see her sleep through 16 barking Aussies! Megan and her 5 siblings were found on the side of the road near Marysville. Her mama was hit by a car and came in late that night...she didn't make it.

All the puppies have found homes, but due to her special needs, her care giver asked us to find her the perfect home. Megan has been house raised, is housebroken, is very friendly towards all people and dogs and extremely trainable. She does not like to be crated...but that's ok! Fostered in Grass Valley. Boomer
Boomer is a neutered male Australian Shepherd, purebred. He is 5 years old, with lots of energy. He is well behaved and know's "sit" and "stay". He is house broke and has lived w/ his family as an indoor/outdoor dog his whole life. He has grown up with small children and loves kids. He absolutely loves to run and romp around. Would be a great trail, hiking or running companion. Boomer is a smart, can figure things out and learn quick when he wants to. He does like his attetion and to be loved. His family does not think they are meeting his needs. They do not really have time to exercise him or give him enough love. They would like to place him in a more suitable home. Boomer does not have any bad habits (so we are told), except he does get a litle grouchy when the old dog that he lives with stumbles over to his food. So they have taken to feeding the dogs separately. Boomer likes other dogs. His family does not have cats, so we don't how he would be around them. He was just recently neutered so I would say he is a proud cut (horse talk) male. I think he will increasingly settle in to himself and become mellow as his testosterone fades. He has a $50 adoption fee.

Panda
This is a sweet black tri girl who came to us from the Monterey County Animal Services. She is about 7 years old and weighs 44 pounds. Panda has a cheery and relaxed disposition and is wonderful with people and other dogs. While she loves to be near her family, she is not overbearing and is content to spend the day sitting by your side. She would enjoy another dog companion. Panda wants to please and is a quick learner. She's great walking on a leash and loves fetching a ball. She's had a thorough exam and is in good health. Panda is available for adoption to a home where she'll get the love and attention she deserves.Senior dogs can make the BEST companions!

Casper Adopted
Mia's pup: Casper

The girls are quite busy and agile. They run around and zoom in and out of the doggie door with great speed and accuracy. We think they are great agility candidates...especially in light of their small size. Finn and Cassidy, the boys are not quite as busy, but Finn is a real charmer and very confident.
If you are interested in adopting one of Mia's puppies, please submit an adoption application, thank you.
